GERMAINE PRENOVAULT (née ALARIE) 1922 - 2014 With much love and sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of our mother at the age of 92 on December 5, 2014. Vibrant to the end, she is survived by her five children, Diane Moddemann (Felix), Julie, Marie Loewen (David), Paul (Marielle), Jean (Bernice), her 11 grandchildren and her four siblings, Donat (Irène), Yvette Cochingyan (Amando), Gilles and Ninette. She was predeceased by her husband Denis and siblings Laurette, Aldéa, Denis, Hélène, Gérard and Gilbert. Born in Ste. Agathe, the second oldest of 11 children, her early years were spent on the farm. After finishing high school, she realized her dream of entering nursing school at St. Boniface Hospital. As a young registered nurse, she met her husband Denis when he returned home from serving overseas. They were married in 1949 and settled into their home on rue St. Jean Baptiste for 61 years. There Germaine nurtured her children and shared her extraordinary homemaking skills with her cooking, baking, sewing, beautiful gardens and flowers. After staying home to raise her children, she returned to nursing at Centre Taché (now ActionMarguerite) in 1968 and retired at the age of 71, a career of 25 years. She remained involved as a member of the board and Ladies Auxiliary. Until her passing, she was knitting and collecting items to be sold in the gift shop. Germaine excelled as a caregiver. She always put the welfare of her family ahead of her own. She provided unwavering support to her children and grandchildren and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. Her grandchildren have fond memories of sleepovers, treats and prayers prior to exams. She was devoted to her husband Denis and took excellent care of him at home until his death in 2010. After Denis' death, Germaine moved to Villa Aulneau where she found a wonderful new home. There, she continued caring for others by sharing her famous fudge, delivering newspapers and helping her new friends in numerous ways. A woman of strong faith, she was an active member of the St. Boniface Cathedral and at Villa Aulneau. Her "joie de vivre", her positive attitude, and her beautiful smile will be missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to ActionMarguerite (185 Despins St. Winnipeg R2H 0L7) or to a charity of your choice. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 ave de la Cathédrale. Words of remembrance will be shared at 10:15 a.m. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220.

  • Merci à tout le monde pour vos pensées de ma grand-mère Germaine. Elle était une femme extraordinarie pour sa famille. I have so many memories of Grand-mère, but 2 that stand out for me are the times I would go to her place for sleepovers over a decade ago, and the fact I finally learned how to make her famous sucre à crème about a year and a half ago. She truly lived the ideology I live of being a "person for others". - Posted by: Aidan (Grandson) on: Dec 17, 2014

• Marie and Dave, we are sorry to hear about your mother's passing. While I only met your mother through her fudge and the stories you told us at the office, she was a person of excellent quality and character. It would appear that the apple did not fall far from the tree. Once again sorry about your mother's passing and please know that Lesley and I are here for you if you need us. - Posted by: Shumilak (Friend and secondly a co worker) on: Dec 12, 2014
