ANNETTE GENEVIEVE McINERNEY Our mother, Annette Genevieve McInerney, was born February 15, 1927. She grew up in the Canadian Maritimes and loved to swim among the rocks and waves in the Bay of Fundy. The nuns of St. Benedict's Academy in St. John, NB were a great influence on her young life and instilled in Mom a strong and sustaining faith, which she maintained all of her life. Mom married her best friend, Harry, whom she had known from the age of 10. Together they embarked on an adventurous life with the Canadian Armed Forces with many other adventures to follow. Through almost 50 years of marriage, Mom supported all of Dad's elusive dreams and he hers. Throughout those years they had four children, (Betty, Patty, Michael and Cathy), 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. We enjoyed a life rich in music, literature and conversation (often extremely lively!) and grew up with the knowledge that every day we were cherished. This love, these hearts that surrounded us, grew to include siblings, cousins, grandparents and any person in need. And together we created a home often filled to overflowing. Mom's heroic strength and tenacity, while dealing with crippling rheumatoid arthritis, kept us together as a unit. She was the rock and the glue that kept our family strong. We have always been and will continue to be in awe of Mom and Dad's ageless love, this great love story that would never end. Mom lived an incredibly busy life even after Dad passed away in 2000, working until she was 83. She will be remembered for her local TV show in Ignace, Ont., "What's Your View" and her newspaper column "Over the Back Fence". She volunteered at Riverview dispensing communion while she went from room to room on her scooter. She worked for many years for Basstel and made some lasting relationships there over the last 15 years. Mom and Dad enjoyed a successful career as partners with Investors Group Inc. from which she eventually retired. We have always shared her faith that she and Dad would be forever re-united. The family would like to thank the WRHA Home Care and all of the wonderful people who enriched her life over the years. And special thanks to Palliative Care who found a place for Mom at Convalescent Home where she spent her final weeks. Mom, as always, was the life of the party and although she was at The Convalescent Home only a short time, she made an impact on the staff there. We are very grateful for their care. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John Brebeuf, 1707 John Brebeuf Place on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arthritis Society - Manitoba Division, #105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R6. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220.

  • Sorry to hear of Aunt Tootsie's passing. I have many fond memories of her and Harry, they were a great couple. Had a wonderful visit with them when they were last in Nova Scotia. I have a picture of Tootsie with my Father taken around 1936? I could E-Mail you a copy if you you would like to have it. - Posted by: Jim Comeau (Nephew) on: Dec 14, 2014

  • Our sincere condolences to the McInerney Family. We have a fond memory of stopping in at Ignace Ontario and enjoying Anne's hospitality including a piece of homemade blueberry pie. - Posted by: June & Edd Schellenberg ((friends)) on: Dec 12, 2014

  • I met Anne while volunteering with the Patient Partner program in 1997. I always knew which examining room Anne was in because of the laughter comimg from the students, she had a different joke every week, one of my favourites was about a biker chick! One summer our Patient Partner group was invited to the Lieutenant Governor House for lunch, after a delicous lunch our group gathered to take pictures with the Governor. Anne was seated directly in front of me for the picture taking, as soon as the picture was taken, Anne touched my hand and said to me "Corrie dear, my vision is blurred on my right eye and think I have had a stroke" I was very concerned and kneeled down in front of her, looking into her eyes, I said "Anne did you know that you are missing the right lenses on your glasses". I guess the lenses had popped off in front of her right before the picture was taken! We both laughed so hard we were shushed by the L.G! I would often pick up Anne for different functions that our group attended, Anne would make a full circle of my car before she got in saying "Angels all around" I was told by Anne that this would ensure we had a safe journey, which we always did, I think our safe journeys we attributed to the angel sitting beside. I would say Rest In Peace Anne but I think you and Harry are up there doing an Irish jig. You will be dearly missed but NEVER forgotten! - Posted by: Corrie Billedeau (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2014

  • Anne will always be a part of our Basstel family. Harry was the first to join us and Annie then became a treasured member of our office. Anne was an inspiration. She was beloved by all and was always a joy. Annie had a smile on her face from the moment she arrived in the office. She had a kind word for everyone and was the most genuinely kind and sincere person that we have had the pleasure of knowing. Annie would regale us with stories and jokes (a few for mature audiences) delivered with her sweet nature and infectious laugh. Anne was very proud of her family and we would hear of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Many years ago new computers were brought in. Anne was unsure if she could learn how to use them, and pretty soon she was helping give instructions. Anne attended a formal banquet with all of us - and did the most dancing of anyone! And for one of her birthdays we brought in a barbershop quartet to serenade her. Anne was thrilled and said that "Dad would have loved this!" When Annie retired in her 80's we missed her dearly. She was never far from our thoughts and hearts and will remain in them always. - Posted by: Janie Bass (Friend) on: Dec 09, 2014

  • My Dear sweet Annie is now with her beloved Harry...the most amazing couple I have ever had the honour of knowing! One of my lifelong cherished memories and best days ever was being Annie's date to the Cancer Society's Gala. A truly magical night with a truly magical woman! You have always been, and will continue to be, an inspiration! Rest now in the peace that you so truly deserve and enjoy your eternity with Harry! I love you. - Posted by: Ray Gill (Friend from Basstel) on: Dec 09, 2014

  • I met Anne through the Patient Partner program - she had trained before I became the trainer but she was an active member for many years and I always looked forward to seeing her when I did the twice yearly site reviews in Winnipeg. As was mentioned earlier - she was very often the life of the party. And the medical students and residents not only learned from her - they loved her. A wonderful woman who leaves many warm and great memories with a lot of people. - Posted by: anne lyddiatt (friend) on: Dec 09, 2014

  • Anne was one of the most interesting & energetic people I ever met....not afraid to take on learning something new, well into her 70's. When she trained to be a Patient Partner, Anne learned all about anatomy & how to correctly demonstrate an MSK exam to medical students, as well as MD's. She was one of our most popular members.....We shall all miss her..... - Posted by: Wendy Weber (Patient Partner friend) on: Dec 09, 2014

  • A wonderful lady, one that I will never forget. R.I.P Annie - Posted by: Tracy Lauzon (Friend from Basstel) on: Dec 09, 2014
