FRANK CORNELIUS FUNK 1930 - 2014 Frank Cornelius Funk, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2014 in the presence of family after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by Emily (nee Kustra), his wife of 52 years, who passed away on December 17, 2011. He is also predeceased by his parents and recently this year, his brother Jake. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Lorie (Kelvin Martel), Sheila (Brian Pomrenke), and sons Ken (Yvonne Funk) and Tom (Tatiana Kowalchuk), along with his grandchildren Derek, Katharine, Hailey, Jillian and Emilee. Also mourning his loss are his brothers Abe, Cornie, John, Peter, Jim, and sisters Sarah and Susan as well as their families, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Frank was born in Barkfield, Manitoba on September 19, 1930 to Cornelius and Sara Funk. Frank's early years were spent on the family farm in the Grunthal area. As a teenager he started commercial truck driving. This was to become a life-long vocation. In his early 20s he moved to Winnipeg where he worked for Leamington Transport. During this time he met his future wife Emily. They were married in Dauphin on November 22, 1958 and settled in the Grunthal area where they raised a family and farmed. Along with operating a dairy farm, Frank continued long distance transport. He had a long time association with Penner International which continued into the 1990s. Frank and his family moved to Steinbach in 1973 where he took up painting houses and barns. In 1980, they moved to Kelowna where they owned an antique store and later a restaurant. Trucking was still something he enjoyed and as such he delivered trucks for Western Star. In the late 1990s Frank and Emily moved to Winnipeg before retiring to Transcona. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Health problems led him to become a resident at Concordia Place in 2010. Frank's health deteriorated rapidly this past month and after a valiant fight he succumbed to his illness. His entire family wonderfully supported him during this time. He will be missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire second floor staff of Concordia Place. Their care for him was outstanding and their love and kindness was truly appreciated by both Frank and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba would be appreciated.
