JOAN GRANT DOIG (nee BAINE) On December 16, 2014 Joan Doig passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the age of 100. Joan was predeceased by her husband James in 1993 and her younger siblings Jack, David, Donald, George and Kay. She is survived by her daughter Jo-Donna (Rick Williamson) and their daughters Lindsay (Shaun Kaluznick), Melissa (Tyler Levine), Jennifer (Jeff Grant) and greatgrandsons Hunter and Kade, her son Donald (Donna Smith-Doig) and their daughters Serena (Mike Classens), Wanoni, Taleah and great- grandson Emry. She also leaves to mourn her cousin Mary (Austin Manson) in Scotland and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was born to George and Janet Baine on October 3, 1914. She grew up on Gallagher Avenue before moving to West Kildonan with her husband Jim. In her later years she moved to Beauchemin Park condo to be closer to family. She worked for many years at T. Eaton Company and Canada Post. Throughout her life Joan was always an avid sports enthusiast and her children remember spending many Saturday nights watching hockey and listening to football. Joan was always actively involved in bowling, curling and loved working with her hands, knitting and sewing. Joan had many friends and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion where she was a member of Charleswood Branch #100 where she met with friends playing bingo and pool top. She and her family were very proud of her long involvement as Past President of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary NW Command and her active participation on numerous committees. The family would like to thank all the staff at Charleswood Care Centre for their care and attention through her last couple of years. At Joan's request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her name to The Salvation Army or The Winnipeg Humane Society. Mom, just go around the bend, Dad is waiting to take your hand and show you the way. • To Joan's family, my deepest condolences. Joan and Jimmy and the Baine family were longtime friends of the Scott family. My parents were Norm and Elsie Scott, both growing up and living in Weston for years. My Dad was also involved with the Legion and of course met up with them there at conventions, etc. My husband, John Gillis, is involved with the Charleswood Legion and both Joan and I were surprised to meet there again. Everytime I went, I always had a visit with Joan and she would talk about my Dad and Jimmy and the fun times. - Posted by: Carol Gillis (Acquaintance) on: Dec 22, 2014
