MARGUERITE LAURA LEASK We are heartbroken to announce Marguerite Laura Leask (nee Lambert), 71, passed away peacefully December 30, 2014 after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Maggie was born and raised in Transcona. She married Richard Leask on December 17, 1966. Richard and Maggie were blessed with three children: Kera (Don); Nori (Jean), granddaughters Brielle and Janais; John (Renae), Codey, Austin and Sienna. She is survived by sisters Yo (Vic), Jean (Jack), Helen (Frank), Gail, brothers Moe (Nancy), Francois, and many nieces and nephews. Greeting her in Heaven with open arms were her parents, Caroline and Archie Lambert, and brother Denis. Although she was so tiny and frail at the end, she never let go of her trust in God. Because of her faith she was an example of courage, strength and hope. The most beautiful gifts were her two granddaughters. Throughout her illness, Mom always kept her sense of humour, enjoying simple things, which were spending time with her sisters, her Saturday lunch group with Sylvia and Diane, enjoying time with family, going for walks and sitting in her backyard. Mom never was a dog lover. A recent addition left her smitten with puppy Macey, often taking her for walks. Maggie felt the prayers and support she received from family and friends that gave her strength to fight. The family would like to thank Comforts of Home-Care, Dr. Rimmer and team at CancerCare (Marc - Pharmacist), and staff at St. Boniface Hospital. You made our world a better place and you will be forever loved, missed and in our hearts. Funeral Service will be held at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke St., 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015. Wheeler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

  • I worked with Maggie for many years and will never forget her amazing positive attitude, beautiful smile, and genuine kindness. We always joked that we had each other's back through thick and thin, even if we had to go to war together. There was no one I would have trusted more and I honestly felt that in my heart. I will always remember how she just lit up, both on the inside and outside, when we kidded like that. Well I guess after a courageous battle she finally lost her war but knowing how many people had her back it definitely carried her a very long way. With great sorrow for her friends here on earth I say heaven is lucky to have her. - Posted by: Paul Schmidt (Co-worker and friend) on: Jan 10, 2015

  • Monck Avenue has lost our fearless "grandma Maggie". I loved seeing Maggie pushing her walker (and usually her dog Macey) around the neighbourhood in hopes of catching every last ray of sunshine! She had a kind word for me whenever we would meet. She was inspirational to me. This little lady fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Rest in peace Maggie. - Posted by: Elizabeth Schellenberg (neighbor) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • Wow !! All your beautiful words are such a huge tribute to who my precious mom was. She really was one of the most precious gifts we ever received. Although we weren't able to keep her long enough, I thank God for giving her to us. She was such a fine example of what God "intended us to be", as people & Christians. She was an amazing example of Hope, Courage, Strength & Love for family, friends & all things God created & gifted us. I still can't believe she is gone although I know she will forever be in our hearts, minds & in the sunshine on our faces. Thank you all so much for your love, support & prayers. This is what will help us all "walk through" the worst heartache & loss we have ever experienced. Much love & gratitude, Kera & Family xxoo - Posted by: Kera (Eldest daughter ) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • I believe that I had met Maggie on one occasion a few years ago while I was living and working in Winnipeg as a morning radio personality. I got to be really close friends with Frank and Helen Torchia and would spend time at their home in Transcona. It was on one of those visits that I met Maggie.
