MARVIN THOMAS TAYLOR After 80 years of a life well lived, Marv passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his wife Lorraine, his children Denise (Victor), Kathy (Jim), Brigitte (Ross), brother Frank (Sally), and sister Margaret. Also deeply missed by his grandchildren Beau (Terri), Jade (Melissa), Amanda (Brian), Tara (Luke), Joshua (Becky), Jack, Maxim, Matthew (Chantelle) and Bradley. Great-grandchildren include Audibelle, Jonah, Gracey, Lillie, Kalle, Emily, Reid, Taylor, Kayla, Trevor, Keegan, Alyssa and Casen. Marv was born and raised in Hamilton Ontario and spent the early years of his working life in Ontario. Starting in construction, he worked in various areas, most notably as a consultant for companies in transition - acting as CEO, Chairman, Special Advisor. He provided his services in various domains, including grain cleaning equipment, industrial magnetics, payroll, florist supplies, cattle ranching and investment. He was also involved with the Associates Program at the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, and served as a board member of the Canadian Commercial Corporation. Marv also worked extensively internationally, providing his services to clients in the United States and South Africa. He was particularly satisfied when he could provide assistance or advice to a motivated small business owner, and was always proud to see them thrive. Outside of his professional life, there was nothing Marv enjoyed more than being near the water - on his various boats, in Florida, on a cruise or vacation. He loved his cottage in Lake of the Woods, sitting on the deck reading his book, watching people cruise by or seeing his family enjoy the dock. He and Lorraine hosted many gatherings for family and friends, regularly made their way to Ontario and Georgia to visit family and travelled to many different destinations around the world, as far as South Africa and New Zealand. Particular to a fault, all of his things whether they be tools or documents, were impeccably organized and in their place. His wisdom was sought out by many - whether professionally or personally, and his impact on peoples' lives is a legacy to be proud of. He was a mentor, caring husband, devoted grandfather, kind person with a sharp sense of humour appreciated by all who knew him. Friends are invited to join a celebration of his life on Sunday, January 11, at 11:00 a.m., at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. At Marv's request, we ask that you decline to wear a necktie to the service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Salvation Army or the Winnipeg Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. Dear Lorraine and family, I'm so sorry I was unable to be there during this difficult time. We always looked forward to your visits to Hamilton. It was always wonderful to have you guys here and especially to see Marv interact with our children. Those are very precious memories for us. It even became a bit of a tradition for you and I to stand to the side while Marv and Tara had one of their long hugs goodbye. Unfortunately, this is our final goodbye but he'll never be forgotten. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. He was an amazing man and will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Luke Richardson () on: Jan 09, 2015
