Gerry was a good friend and confidante. We knew each other for over 60 years -- at University, the sorority, and shared a host of good times, laughter and sometimes tears. She was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother and took such pride in her family. I will think of her now being in a beautiful garden surrounded by irises, and dragonflies and those she loved. - Posted by: Lorraine Cook (Good friend) on: Jan 19, 2015

It is with a very heavy heart that we say farewell to Geraldine (niece, cousin and friend). Geraldine’s visits to Calgary were always looked forward to and celebrated with food, drinks, stories and laughter. Geraldine’s wonderful personality, wit and humor will always be remembered and cherished. God speed Geraldine, we will miss you. - Posted by: Patricia Scaife (aunt), Valerie, Gary and Kelley (cousins) (Aunt and cousins) on: Jan 14, 2015

Very sad to hear of the passing of Gerry. I enjoyed our visits every time she came to see me at the spa. Always talking so highly of her mother, family and friends. I'll miss your smiling face, and our great conversations. Although with a heavy heart, I can't help but smile when I think of all the wonderful times I got to spend with Gerry. Condolences to her family, you lost an amazing woman. Would love to attend her service in the spring, kindly advise the date. - Posted by: Tiffany Helmkay (Esthetician at Giselle's Day Spa) on: Jan 14, 2015

Gerry and I volunteered to work together on the church photo directory in 2009. I picked Gerry up and we went for lunches most months of the past years. I enjoyed Gerry's wit and great smile. I will miss her. My deepest sympathy to all her family. I look forward to meeting you in the spring at the service. Kindly advise the date. - Posted by: Sheila Dunn (Friend from Ft Garry Church) on: Jan 13, 2015

I worked with Gerry in Fort Garry S.D. She wore many hats, and was an intelligent, artistic and caring person to children and colleagues alike. She had a wonderful way with children, and was instrumental in setting up the program for Gifted and Talented students in the division. She was well respected by all who worked with her, and she mentored many of use during the process. I wish to express my sympathy to all of her family. She was fortunate to have you and you her. She will be missed by many of us who had the good fortune to work with her. - Posted by: Val Burch (Colleague) on: Jan 13, 2015

Tribute to my mother: Mom, we have been through everything togeather. From me beeing a little man and my father leaving to becoming a young man raised in the hands of you and my grandfather James J. Dougal Mcdiarmid and my grand mother Beryl Mcdiarmid (nee Scaife) I THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE GIVEN ME. I miss your consoling love and i miss your wise insight. I miss evrything about you! You taught me how to be a man and you taught me how to stand up for those who could not stand up for themselves. You taught me respect and how to treat those that have been less fortunate. You taught me how to be a stand up member of our society and to care for and be an advocate for people that can not or are afraid to speak out for themselves. You are/were my rock mom! Although I cry now and constantly wipe tears from my eyes I want you to know you were everything to me! I will hold your values and your spirit in my heart until i take my last breath on this earth. Thank you for everything rest softly knowing you touched all of us with your beauty! I will miss you mom! Chris - Posted by: Christopher Kemp Lane (Son) on: Jan 11, 2015

Saturday mornings is my time of quiet which includes reading all sections of the Winnipeg Free Press, including the Obituaries. In them, I often find stories that speak of the history of our city and our province as well as the lives of individuals. One of the signs of aging is knowing that you will often find names of people you have known as neighbours,as friends of your extended families, as professional colleagues and fellow workers, and as members of philanthropic and fraternal organizations. This morning, I was stunned to read of the death of Gerry Lane. I had just recently served as her chauffeur to take both of us to our Alpha Delta Pi Christmas luncheon at the University Women's Club. On our drive home, we spoke of our plans for the next few months prior to our next get-together, and wished each other well in another New Year. Since Gerry and I have known each other for almost 60 years we always have enjoyed these quiet moments of sharing the ups and downs of our lives and our families. I will miss her friendship greatly. - Posted by: Norma Johnson Drosdowech (Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Sister) on: Jan 10, 2015
