CECILE HERMINIE MAGER (nee LEMIEUX) Peacefully, surrounded by family it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecile on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the age of 97 years, in Winnipeg, MB. Left to cherish Cecile's memory are her son, Marc (Barbara); grandchildren Colette (Ed) Mukanik, Jean-Paul, Andre (Tammy), Allan Linklater Mager, and Thamer Linklater Mager; great-grandchildren Faith and Rylee Mukanik, Taylor Harrap, Meriena Kirsopp, Chantelle (Justin) Sawka, and Mitchel Cheverie. She was predeceased by her loving husband Victor (Vic) on January 13, 2005 after 64 years of marriage; infant grandson, Michael on March 14, 1967; parents Clara and Joseph; sisters Marguerite, Theresa, and Josie. Born on October 13, 1917 in Maryfield, SK, Cecile obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Manitoba and a Teacher's Certificate at Manitoba's Teacher's College in 1937. She taught school in Fannystelle and Bruxells, MB. On July 14, 1940 Cecile married Victor (Vic) Mager, whom she met while attending university. One son Marc Joseph, born February 5, 1942, blessed this union. After three years in Winnipeg, Cecile, Vic and Marc moved to Maryfield where they enjoyed farming for seven years. In November 1950 they moved to St. Charles where they purchased a farm. However, that was short lived as the City of Winnipeg spread out to the St. Charles area and large parcels of land were sold for real estate development. They retained their family home and small acreage where they enjoyed gardening and playing with their grandchildren. Once again their family home was sold to the City of Winnipeg, and they "moved" across the river to 6412 Roblin Boulevard. Sadly on January 13, 2005, Cecile's loving husband Vic at the age of 88 passed into the Lord's hands. Cecile enjoyed the community of St. Charles Parish and accumulated many friends. An active member of St. Charles Parish and a member of the C.W.L., she loved art and had shown her hand in many paintings. Cecile loved to sew, and being only 4'10", her sewing machine was kept well-oiled for shortening all her clothes. Quilting was a great hobby too, Vic built her a rack and Cecile could be found hand stitching and stretching beautiful quilts. She taught her granddaughter, Colette, how to make her first quilt. In Cecile's younger years, Barbara was there to take her shopping and peruse the paper for bingo halls. She was a devoted mother to Marc, who was always ready to answer Cecile's first alarm button, no matter the time of day or night. She lavished in the love and care by Colette, teased Jean-Paul with his cooking, and looked forward to an electrical problem that Andre could solve on one of his many visits. She looked forward to the visits from her great-grandchildren and posted their art on her fridge and walls for display. Faith, Rylee and Taylor loved visiting with grandma and all had their own ways of showing their love as did Meriena, Chantelle and Mitchel. Cecile will be missed. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg, MB, with Rev. Fr. Paul Tinguely, presiding. Interment will follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Luncheon will be served by the ladies of St. Charles Parish in the lower parish hall following Mass, all are welcome. Sincere thanks for the care mom and grandma received from home care and Deer Lodge Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind), 1080 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 3M3. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada 204.897.4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

  • My memories of my childhood in Winnipeg always include Cecile and Vic! Cecile was like a grandmother to me. I never met my real Grandparents so to me Cecile and Vic were adopted by me. They were funny and always made sure myself and siblings had plenty to eat. Cecole would bake and make my favourite white custard pudding (Christmas pudding sauce) anytime of the year just for me! She always made extra and would call me into the kitchen with a big bowl hot and ready. My mouth waters for that now. She was a great confidantse, friend, mother, and like I said Grandma. I would even bring friends over after school and she too became their Grandma with her warmth and such Kindness. So many memories to speak of, I am blessed that she was there for me and in my life. I will miss her dearly but happy for her that she is now reunited with her beloved Vic (Grandpa). I know she is in God's Grace as she was a beautiful Woman - Posted by: Bernadette Klowak () on: Jan 16, 2015

  • Grandma Cecile, you will be sadly missed. I'm so glad Colette brought me to see you in 2010 when last I came to Winnipeg on a military course.  May you be at peace now and live in the house of the Lord with Grandpa Vic and all those who have gone before you. You were such a special lady. Words can not tell of how you touched all our lives. To your son, my Uncle Marc and family, especially my 3 cousins, Colette, Jean Paul and Andre. My thoughts and prayers are with you. With a heavy heart I say we were blessed to know such a beautiful lady. May her memory live in all our hearts forever. God Bless and rest in eternal peace. • Vic and Cecile were neighbors who I grew to love. Later I ended up renting their basement suite for a year. What fun we used to have, dinner parties, tea time, outings. We took them to the greenhouse and in my excitement to take care of them I left all my plants on a wagon after I paid for them. A trip back to Shelmerdines with the two of them teasing me; we were relieved to find my plants. I had a large group over for supper and after the meal I said "my teapot isn't big enough". Cecile ran upstairs and came down with the biggest teapot I had ever seen. I could only fill it halfway....it was too heavy to lift. So many times of laughter and love. Cecile loved to paint and she painted with words for us. She told us many stories of growing up, how she and Vic met and fell in love. They were a couple who were very much in love and they completed each other. Cecile had an active, curious mind and loved to discuss current events, politics, religion, she was astute and loved to question and share. Most of all what I remember is the two loving hearts who cared for me when I needed it. When I would thank them, they'd laugh, hug me and say "the road goes both ways". Yes, it did because I loved them so, but they were wonderful. Our comfort is that they are together again, safe in the arms of God. - Posted by: Jeanine and Milton Turnbull (loving friends) on: Jan 11, 2015

  • OUR HEARTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO YOU AND BARB AND YOUR FAMILY AT THIS SAD TIME. GOD BLESS YOU - Posted by: LLOYD AND JEANETTE BARTHELETTE (FRIEND) on: Jan 10, 2015

  • Always remember her smile and cheery disposition. Wonderful cook and baker, especially her "peach" tarts. Although she was small and tiny, she was mighty and feisty and did not fail to put her two cents in. Loved having conversations with her as she was so full of knowledge! She was a loving mother to my brother in law Marc and was so proud of her grandchildren. Rest In Peace Cecile. - Posted by: Pauline Pryde (Friend/family) on: Jan 10, 2015
