CHARLES CAMERON BURNETT Peacefully on the morning of Thursday, January 8, 2015 Charlie Burnett passed away at the age of 93 years. Charlie will forever be missed by his loving wife Daisy, of over 30 years of marriage; his beloved children, Joanne, Ken (Janice), Sandy (Gord), Jim, four grandchildren, and was predeceased by daughter Laurie in 2013; Daisy's children, Gordon (Lynda), Norman (Dawn), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On August 1, 1921 Charlie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Winnipeg is where he also started his career in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Charlie is a recognized Canadian Veteran and served his country proudly. Following the Second World War Charlie was employed with the Canadian National Railroad for almost 40 years until his retirement. His love for the trains would continue well into his retirement and can be seen in his seemingly endless collection of railroad memorabilia. Charlie was a Life Member at the Royal Canadian Legion Elmwood Branch #9 and that is where he met Daisy. They enjoyed the Legion together and participated in many of the Legion activities and events over the years. Charlie was active on the executive as Sergeant-at-Arms and the Colour Party for many years. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff on N2 West of the Concordia Hospital for their outstanding care and professionalism during this time. Thank you so much. Cremation has taken place and the family would like you to join us for a "Celebration of Life" for Charlie on Friday, January 16, 2015. There will a come-and-go from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. with an official legion service between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Elmwood Branch #9, 920 Nairn Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Always loved, never forgotten and forever missed.

  • Ken, Janice & Family, please accept our deepest condolences … Ron & Sharon Gerrick - Posted by: Ron Gerrick ... (friend) on: Jan 15, 2015

  • We were sad to hear about the passing of Charlie. He will always be the best Colour Party leader the legion ever had. Our kids always loved to hear Charlie lead the colour party at Remembrance day with his raspy voice. To watch Charlie and Daisy get up on the floor and dance the night away I always admire love like theirs, like there was no one else that mattered in the world. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Patrick and Josie Davis Family (members of the legion) on: Jan 15, 2015

  • We are saddened by the passing a very devout legionaire. He was Sergeant-at-arms when we joined. He was always ready to offer help and advice. We will miss him. Our condolences to you Daisy. - Posted by: Ray L'Heureux (fellow legionaire) on: Jan 15, 2015

  • Charlie will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Daisy and family. - Posted by: Judy McCall (Friend from Legion #9) on: Jan 14, 2015

  • My deepest condolences to Daisy and family. There are so many memories of Charlie and Daisy at the branch to share. A meat draw would not be complete without Charlie's insistence on communicating his preference to "TAKE THE CHICKEN" and if someone whom he was sitting with him or himself did not win, Charlie would be quick to point out "SHAKE THEM UP" or "MIX THEM UP" implying that they were not appropriately mixed. When he did win and come up, he would tell whomever was running the meat draw, "I hope I pick one of yours". All these traits were standard Charlie. At Social Events when there would be bands playing, he would have a standard request of them or if it was Karaoke, I would join him and sometimes Daisy would join in as well and share in a chorus of "Where am I going to Live when I get home?" There were times when I would travel on business or pleasure and Charlie would make sure he had his request in to "bring me back an opener from there". It didn't matter where you were going he just wanted a bottle opener from wherever to add to his collection. Not sure what he would do with all those openers? His beverage of choice of course would be Coors Light. Never wavered and was brand loyal to his Coors Light. I had the pleasure and honour to serve in the Colour Party for countless Parades, Funerals and Meetings under Charlie's Command. These are just a few of the fond memories I would like to share. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Rest in Peace Comrade. - Posted by: Joseph Payjack (Comrade and Friend) on: Jan 14, 2015
