THOMAS WALLACE MCEWAN January 9, 1929 January 14, 2015 Passed away peacefully on January 14, 2015 at Peace Arch Hospital after a brief illness. Wally was born in Melfort, SK. He spent his childhood at Hudson Bay Co. Fur Trading Post where his father was Chief Factor. He was predeceased by his wife Betty and son David. He leaves to mourn: daughters Megan (Ron), Jennifer (John), brothers Neil and Dale as well as the staff and his many dear friends at the Peninsula Retirement Home. He joined the Manitoba Telephone System in 1949 in Winnipeg, as a Service Tech. He transferred to the new mining town of Thompson on the opening of a telephone system in 1960. After five years he was transferred to Melita and maintained the various small telephone exchanges in the area. In 1971 he was appointed Manager of Long Distance switching systems for Western Manitoba. He later transferred to Winnipeg as Supervisor of Complaints and Repair Department for the City of Winnipeg. Wally retired in 1987 and moved to White Rock. Wally was an avid traveller, gardener, computer whiz, and master genealogical researcher. He enjoyed being Master Bingo Caller and Black Jack Dealer. He was also known as the joker, always providing a daily laugh for all his friends. A farewell tribute for Wally will be held at Royale Peninsula Retirement Home, 2088 152 Street, in Surrey, BC on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. A Cremation has taken place.
