EINO PATRICK VESA It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Eino Patrick Vesa on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 62 years. After a brief but courageous battle with liver disease Eino passed away peacefully in the presence of two very close friends, Connie and Craig. Eino leaves behind his son Kyle, mother Marsha (Steve Opitz), sisters Elaine, Brenda (James), brothers Darrell (Pam), Grant (Laura), and many nieces and nephews. Eino was predeceased by his father Tony. Eino had many friends that were made throughout the years of his traveling between Winnipeg and British Columbia, too numerous to name them all. Connie, Craig and Gary, friends until the end we thank you. Wayne, Rina and Steven, his Quadra Island family, thank you so much for your friendship and picking up the hitchhiker. To the gang at the Osborne Hotel and the Canadian Legion, thank you, thank you, and thank you. Eino was born September 18, 1952 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba and briefly resided in Churchill, Manitoba before coming to Winnipeg. His love for British Columbia and all its beauty, the clamming, the tree planting and the opportunity it presented to work on his true love his art work, had him living a free spirit, nomadic life. Although keeping tabs on him was nearly impossible we knew this to be his happy place. To quote Connie, Craig and Gary, "Eino was Diverse, Eclectic and Eccentric. He was an Artist, Tree-planter, Fisher and Best Friend. He will be forever missed by all his friends who were lucky enough to know and love him. Love and Godspeed." To the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences Centre who cared for Eino these last few days and his case workers Malissa and Megan, thank you for your professionalism and compassion. A celebration of his life will be held at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. • What can I say about a man who taught me how to catch a jackfish with your bare hands!! Awesome, really freakin awesome!! A man with a lot of talent. A free spirited man. Kind and gentle. Great smile! Eino--amazing artist-- All these years have passed and I still reflect on the canvas Eino created of the rocks and boulders of Northern Manitoba. I had no idea back then just how many colours living rocks had, and how the colours changed with the seasons like they do. That canvas reminded me of the kind of person Eino was. Eino helped you see things from a totally different perspective and to appreciate what most people overlook and then to find the beauty in it. Back then was 1970. That's a long time ago now. Some friends come and go in your life and some stay with you for a lifetime. Eino was a lifer. Our paths crossed throughout the years many times and in the most unlikely of places. All of us, wondering what the other one was doing at the same place at the same time and just how did we all get there. Conversation and laughter picked up just like we had left it a few days ago. Rest in peace Eino. See you again one day my friend, probably in the most unlikely of places! Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Wayne Nowazek (Old friend) on: Jan 23, 2015

  • I met Eino about 30 yrs ago. He was a loyal friend, he'd help anyone. He had a great sense of humor. There were 4 of us that hung out for a long while. His best buddy Banjo Bob has passed as well as our other buddy Connie. 4 great friends that enjoyed one another's company. He read a lot and we'd exchange books, I'm gonna miss him immensely and we actually went out together but my addiction was too hard on him so we stayed good friends. I loved that man. - Posted by: lisa johnston (old friend) on: Jan 22, 2015

  • I will always remember Eino from the time we went tree-planting together at Manifotogan - probably his second year, my first...I had just the best picture of him, sitting on the rock overlooking Beaver Creek he was in 3/4 profile - stroking his whisky whiskers, thinking deep thoughts...in those days, he was a very quiet man, and when I asked him what he was thinking about, he simply said "my son"...Rest easy Eino... - Posted by: Lee Prouten (Friend) on: Jan 22, 2015

  • Eino was my friend....a true friend indeed!! We shared many laughs, conversations, time and tears together. He was always there when needed. I won't soon forgot you Eino and will miss you. • Eino, you were such a sweet sweet man. Not just once in a blue moon, or at a certain time of day. You were just always so kind. You will be remembered and missed greatly. <3 - Posted by: Jennifer P (Friend) on: Jan 22, 2015

  • I met Eino in my first year tree planting. He was definitely a staple in my life for many summers to come. He was a great guy and took me under his wing for a while, teaching us "chosen ones" how to strategically plant a block to end the day in the cream! I was also nomadic for a while, but when I anchored myself back in Winnipeg I chose to live in the Village. Eino and I crossed paths often, even weekly, and always had good chats. Always a teacher. My brother and I even went to play pool with him before Keith (my brother) left for Afghanistan. Eino also collected pictures of the tree planting camps and people, and I had been to his place a few times to share memories, look at pictures and catch up. He was a good guy, I'll miss him! - Posted by: Shannon (Friend, fellow tree planting family member!) on: Jan 22, 2015
