ARTHUR (ART) WAKIN September 27, 1939 - January 10, 2015 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Arthur (Art) Wakin on Saturday, January, 10, 2015, at Delta View Life Enrichment Centre, Delta, BC. Arthur will be missed by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth, his four children and their spouses Lori (Brian), Darren (Annette), Tammy (Cris) and Kary (Cameron), his seven grandchildren, Branden, Alexander, Sydney, Jamie, Stuart, Connor and Holly-Lyn, and his sister Ilse Matusow and family. He was predeceased by his mother Emma, brother Nick, and baby granddaughter Madison. Art spent his career as a buyer in the footwear industry until his retirement in the lower mainland of British Columbia in 2000. His greatest joys were his family and the cabin at Big Whiteshell Lake in Manitoba, where he spent several months of his retirement each year. He was an avid daily walker and would disappear for a couple of hours each day to enjoy the outdoors. He also enjoyed a round of golf with the guys, usually followed by a glass of wine and a fine meal. He was always there to lend a helping hand to whomever needed it. He was a great fixer and fixer upper, and if there was something to be done he was sure to find it. His family, his children and grandchildren, came first and he was a great supporter of every endeavour they took on and could always be counted on to lend a supportive ear or offer a loving hug. Art spent the last two years of his life at the Delta View Life Enrichment Centre. We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone at Delta View who were involved with all facets of the wonderful and loving services they provided, most notably those responsible for his daily care in the Garden Grove unit. A celebration of Art's life will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Saviour Lutheran Church, 4737 57th Street, Ladner, BC. A second service will follow in Winnipeg in the summer with a date to be announced later. Art will be laid to rest in Winnipeg at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family would be gratefully appreciative of a donation to Alzheimer Association of BC at www.alzheimerbc.org, made in memory of Art. Delta Funeral Home (604) 946-6040

  • I will miss the nights out at the cabin going over sitting on the deck having a drink or sitting inside watching the Bombers on TV. Enjoyed his stories of the past. He will be miss by all. Bruce Olsen - Posted by: Bruce Olsen (Family) on: Jan 25, 2015
