MERILYN MARGARET WAWRO
Date of Passing: Jan 21, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMERILYN MARGARET WAWRO It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Merilyn Margaret Wawro, after a brief illness. Mom passed away peacefully in Oliver, BC on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Mom and Dad spent nine winters in Osoyoos, BC where they created wonderful friendships and shared many happy memories. Merilyn was predeceased by her parents Olive and Bill Wilson, her mother-in-law Mary Wawro, and her brothers Bruce Wilson and Lionel Wilson. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Peter Wawro, children Brian Wawro (Melania Taylor), Maureen Wawro-Meiklejohn and Joanne Nemetchek (Jerry Nemetchek), grandchildren Michael, Brayden, Ethan, and Tehya, sister Donna Halverson, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a huge circle of great friends. Mom was born on April 1, 1936 in Watrous, SK. She grew up in a home full of love, laughter and music. From a very young age, Mom developed her passion for singing and was always involved in the choirs at her church. She married the love of her life Peter, August 15, 1959. They lived in several different cities during their marriage. Wherever they ended up they always found a church they loved and Mom promptly joined the choir and often ended up directing. It brings us comfort to know that Mom was a woman of great faith which gave her strength and confidence knowing that she was going to a wonderful place. Mom worked as a teacher in the early years of her marriage. Once her children were born, she embraced her new job as a wife and mother and was the most loving mother her children could hope for. Her family was her greatest pride and joy and she took every opportunity to talk about the achievements of her children and grandchildren. There was never any doubt that Mom's first priority was to her family but she was also a wonderful friend. She was the type of person who would truly listen to her friends and always had the right words for those that were suffering. Mom had many hobbies through the years which she always worked in around her family and friends. She loved to play bridge and her sharp mind made her a formidable opponent. She was also an avid curler for many years and enjoyed golf early in her retirement. Mom's greatest passion was always singing and she shared her love of music with the many choirs that she directed over the years. In the latter years of her life she was a member of the Charleswood United Church choir. When her eyesight began to fail she fought hard to continue singing in the choir and was very grateful to the members of the choir that assisted in numerous ways to make this possible. Mom and Dad travelled to many places during their marriage. They enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Portugal, Texas, Arizona, cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, and countless family trips to campgrounds around Canada. Mom loved spending the winters in Osoyoos, BC where she and Dad had many friends. A service will be held to celebrate Merilyn's life at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Merilyn can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
