DAVID K. STEVENSON It is with sadness and after a valiant battle with Parkinson's that we announce the passing of David on January 26, 2015 at Misericordia Interim Health Care. He was 84 years young. David will be lovingly remembered by his family daughters Margo, Sydney (Shawn) and Lindsay (Greg), and grandchildren, Kaitlin and Brennan O'Toole, Jack, Erik and Brynn Psooy, sisters Betty Geraghty, Pat Burrows, Sally (Paul) Corby, Cathy (Michael) Sweeney and sisterin-law Maria Stevenson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dave was predeceased by his loving wife Jean of 42 years, his parents Cecily and Jack, brother Richard and brothers-in-law Peter Burrows and Hal Geraghty. Born and raised in Winnipeg, he led an extremely active life centered around his family, cottage and the family business. David's tenure with Stevenson & Company began in 1954. From 1972 through to 1987, he took over leadership of the firm. During those years, he was involved with the Winnipeg Real Estate Board, becoming its President in 1969, as well as being Past President of the Manitoba Real Estate Association and a charter member of the Real Estate Institute of Canada (Manitoba Division). Dave's personal passions were golf at St. Charles Country Club, skiing at McCreary, and cottage life at Victoria Beach especially taking part in the social life these activities offered. Without question, together, Dave and Jean loved hosting and being hosted by "their gang" throughout the summer and winter months. We can't say enough to all their close friends who have supported Dave during his struggle over the last four years. Dave's funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29, at 2:00 p.m. at St. George's Crescentwood Anglican Church, located at Wilton and Grosvenor. Special thanks to the Misericordia Interim Health Care (Cornish 2 Team) for the loving care and tremendous support they offered to Dave and the family during his stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The St. George's Church Memorial Fund 168 Wilton St., Winnipeg, MB or Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2, in support of Interim Care.

Condolences & Memories (17 entries)

  • I was terribly sorry to hear of David's death and Dick's last year. We live in Scotland and I grew up away from the family. I came across this obituary purely by chance and it was a big shock. The last time I saw David was at Lake of the Woods in 1958 - he was very much a big cousin. I'm terribly sorry for the whole family for their loss - Posted by: Judy and James Goodfellow (Cousin) on: Apr 11, 2015

  • Very fond childhood memories of Mr. Stevenson and his family. He was always kind to Arthur and I. Condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Mark and Susan Eastwood (Family Friends) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • Margo, Sydney and Lindsay ...I am so saddened to hear about your dad. During our years together in university, he "adopted" me as another daughter. Always made me feel like I belonged in the mix at McCreary, Vic Beach, or on Carpathia. He always had a grin on his face and a joke to share. Dave was full of enthusiasm for life. I am lucky to have known him. Condolences to all. - Posted by: Meagan Mutchmor () on: Feb 01, 2015

  • It is with great sadness that I heard of Mr. Stevenson's passing. Truly one of the nicest, engaging men, I had the privilege of knowing, whether on the paths of Victoria Beach, or the aisles of St. George's. "Rejoice, in the Lord always!" - Posted by: Geoffrey Owen (Family friend) on: Jan 30, 2015

  • Uncle Dave was a big part of the Victoria Frazer family. We will miss him and think of him often. Our thoughts are with all of the family now. - Posted by: Erin Galley (Frazer) (niece) on: Jan 29, 2015

  • Margo, Sydney, Lindsay, Pat and extended family - we are so saddened to learn of Dave's passing. You are all in our thoughts. With our sympathy and love - Nancy and Bill Mitchell. - Posted by: Nancy and Bill Mitchell (Personal friends) on: Jan 29, 2015

  • As a friend of Dave at Stevenson Group, it was always a privilege to be in his company. Dave loved to talk about his annual ski trips and one year we had the chance of being up in Whistler together. One clear, sunny afternoon we were up on 7th Heaven. I saw then why Dave had such a great passion for skiing, he was an incredible skier, it was inspiring to see a man his age ski with such ease, form and confidence. He will be missed. - Posted by: Ken Yee (friend) on: Jan 29, 2015

  • It is with great sadness that I heard the news of David's passing. I send my deepest sympathy to his family and many friends. David hired me to work as a realtor in 1975, my name was Tina Grossmann then. He quickly became my mentor and friend besides being a very good boss. It was David and his partners who helped me face many of the demons of my past. He put me on a draw salary when I had a break down, encouraged professional care. I went on to get a diagnoses of Bipolar disorder, went on medication, which I am still on. David was pivotal in starting me on a path to wellness. I now have a career as a public speaker helping others deal with mental illness. In short I am grateful for David's friendship I owe him a lot. - Posted by: Tina Holland (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2015

  • David was a good friend thru High School and University. We were fraternity brothers, and played lots of golf together at his beloved St Charles Country Club. Unfortunately, I lost track of my great gang when transferred to Toronto in 1954. I couldn't have asked for a better group of friends in my teenage years. (Mike Rattray, Bill Sparrow, Laurie Mitchill, and David Stevenson). Rest in peace David, you deserve it. - Posted by: Bill Rooney (High School friend) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • Heartfelt condolences to all generations of the Stevenson family on the passing of David. Sorry to miss the celebration of his life tomorrow at St. George's. Please know that I'll be there with you in spirit. Love, Eleanor (Johnson) Kyle - Posted by: Eleanor Kyle (Cousin) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • I first met David back in '81 when I became secretary and realtor at the Elders real estate office on Academy Rd. Always a man of integrity, my respect for him grew through many years of working for Stevenson & Co. and considered him not just a boss but both a friend and colleague. I fondly remember company BBQ's at Victoria Beach and when I would see him over the years he always greeted me with a big smile and a hug. My heartfelt condolences to his family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Cathy Therrien (Gilbert, McNeill) (Friend / ex-employee) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • Dave was a wonderfully sociable fellow and I admired his integrity. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Jim Neal (friend & colleague) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • I knew David for probably forty years, through some business activities as well as from Victoria Beach and St. Charles. Always a smiling face and outstretched hand, always happy to see you. A fine man, both Pat and I will miss seeing him. We are very saddened by his passing. - Posted by: Tim Nosworthy (Friend) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • I first got to know Dave when we were both on the board of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce back in the early seventies. He was a bright, energetic, powerhouse then, and even slowed down a bit by Parkinson's he was a bright, energetic, powerhouse the last time we talked. I am glad the picture the family chose to run with this announcement is Dave smiling. Perhaps no pictures exist without Dave smiling! I'd not be surprised. It was a warm, welcoming smile welling up from deep within and expressing his genuine child-like joy to see whoever he was talking to. And, it was impossible not to smile back. At so many levels, Dave brought out the best in others by giving the best of himself. It will never be the same walking the avenues of Victoria Beach knowing I won't bump into him around the next corner, or see him at the sports ground, the bakery, or the pier as was so often the case. However, I am sure I will feel his presence. - Posted by: Sheldon Bowles (Friend) on: Jan 27, 2015

  • Dave's death is another event in the long-standing relationship between the Stevenson-Goodwin families, starting I believe, with our respective parents, Cecily and Jack, and Maybelle and Rod, who first made acquaintance (as I understand it) in the 1930's as members of the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg. On my part, I have known Dave for over 50 years through golf and business and I will sincerely say that he was a valued friend. Bev and I send our heartfelt condolences to the members of his family. • Having lived on Carpathia I knew Dave most of my life...as a young entrepreneur I had as a customer Dave. Our arrangement was snow clearing the walk and drive, ten bucks per month whether it snowed or not. In later life whenever I met Dave on the street he told me how much he hated paying those months that it didn't snow. I will miss those meetings. - Posted by: tim stephenson (friend) on: Jan 27, 2015

  • David was a great guy, and a wonderful part of the community. He will be missed. - Posted by: James Kirk () on: Jan 27, 2015
