ALBERT KOSOWAN September 2, 1931 - January 24, 2015 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Albert Kosowan announces his passing. After working hard for 83 years, his tired body and heart fought a little more, then finally slowed and stopped at 7:40 a.m. on January 24, 2015. He is already being missed by many, including his wife of 55 years, Elsie Kosowan (nee Oryschak), his favourite daughter, Kathy Kosowan and favourite son-in-law Lyle Stafford, favourite son, David (Davis) Kosowan, favourite daughter-in-law Tammy Kosowan and their daughter Paige Blaise. The eldest of 12 children, Albert was born to Nick and Verna Kosowan in Gardenton, Manitoba. Brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relations on both his and Elsie's side of the family were many. He is survived by siblings Olga Toews, Helen Chubaty (husband Peter), Nestor Kosowan, Mike Kosowan (wife Henia), Jarvis Kosowan (wife Eila) and Lawrence Kosowan (wife Barbara), as well as in-laws Elsie Kosowan, Diane Kosowan and Ken Douglas. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Bill Kosowan, Nick Kosowan and John Kosowan, and sisters Lucy Mitchell and Sonia Douglas. A proud transport driver, Albert was always full of entertaining trucking stories. He loved his family deeply, and was a fan of music, dancing, card-playing, socializing and good food; they all gave him joy. His friends were great in number. Rosary service will be held on Friday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m., followed by prayer service at 7:30 p.m. His funeral will be Saturday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. Both will be at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 965 Boyd Avenue, Winnipeg; the Church where he and Elsie were married, and where he was an active member of various committees and groups. He contributed to his Church community in many ways. Services will be performed by Father Volodymyr Bashutskyy, assisted by Father Taras Kowch. Each of them had a very special connection with Albert. Pallbearers will be brothers Jarvis Kosowan and Lawrence Kosowan, nephews Darryl Foy, Sid Foy and Frank Foy, and friend and neighbour Jim Canning. Following the funeral immediate family and those who choose to, will make the journey to Plankey Plains; a small rural cemetery where he wanted his body to rest, near a row of tall pines. Thanks to the many health care professionals involved in his care and treatment over the years. Particular gratitude to the Emergency Department team at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg for their efforts during his final hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bless Virgin Mary Parish, or a charity of your choice. Albert is now with the Angels.

Condolences & Memories (18 entries)

  • I always loved joking around with Albert every time he dropped off perogies at St. Amant He had such a spirited personality. He gave the best hugs and always said he was staying out of trouble, but I questioned the truth behind that answer more than a few times. The world is a much less beautiful place without him. Sending "Albert sized" hugs to you and your family Elsie. - Posted by: Denise Henry (friend) on: Feb 02, 2015

  • To Mrs. Kosowan and family. So sorry to her of Albert's passing. I first met Albert in 1961, Ben in 1962..... the good old days of Bestway Express. Albert always had a cheerful way about him and we certainly enjoyed lots of chuckles over time. Fond memories of discussing the weekly budget come to mind. So sorry we missed the funeral service. We did not learn of his passing until y/day. Blessings to you and yours and may he rest in peace. • Albert was a wonderful friend. He was a loyal man to all he knew. His family were very important to him and he loved them with all his heart. Thoughts and prayers to all. Will be unable to attend service as we are in Arizona. He looked up the Plankey Plains cemetery and there was a lovely video of the area. We were touched to see where our friend would be laid to rest. - Posted by: Janet and Jim Minaker (long time friends) on: Jan 30, 2015

  • Many years ago, I had a garden at St. Amant Center. With hoe, fork, rake, etc. in the trunk of my car, I was not looking forward to a long afternoon of strenuous physical work preparing it for spring planting. When I arrived, much to my surprise, I found the garden beautifully rotor-tilled. A miracle! Thanks to Albert, the man with the kind heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you Elsie. - Posted by: Yvette Leuzinger (Friend) on: Jan 30, 2015

  • Uncle you will be truly be missed!! I loved when you would call and you would always say "how are you looking" and you would always refer to my mom as "sister-in-law" instead of by her name. • My dad met Albert when Albert's neighbor was angry with him because he would not move his truck which was parked on a residential street. The neighbor broke a board off her fence and began to hit him. My dad witnessed the incident and testified for him in court. Albert and Elsie became good friends with Mary and Vimy Kennedy from that moment on. I am so sorry to hear of Albert's passing. He had a great sense of humour and was just an all around great guy.
