Squadron Leader "Chuck" Keating served 25 years in the RCAF as a pilot including a tour on the F-86 Sabre at Zweibruken, Germany in the 1950s where he excelled as the Team Leader of the FIREBALLS Aerobatic Team. He spent many post retirement years as "The Mobile Carpenter" in Winnipeg. Chuck was a trusted leader, friend and skilled pilot in the RCAF. He had a wonderful sense of humour that lasted until his final days and delighted his Care Givers at DCL. He was stubborn (persistent) but always conciliatory. He easily made many lifelong friends, such as wingman "Fireball 2" Syd Burrows. He enjoyed sports throughout his life playing baseball, hockey (RCAF Flyers Europe), curling (Manitoba Consuls) and golf (keep your head down). He loved to travel and continued to do so in his later years by motorhome with his dog Mitzi. He belonged to The Sabre Pilots Association of Air Division Squadrons (SPAADS) and was a member of St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church. Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church, on Friday, February 6, 2015 with Rev. John Dolloff officiating. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Chuck (still hard not to think of him as Sir) when I came to Gimli as an ROTP student pilot fresh off 27 hours on the Chipmunk at Camp Borden. Gimli is a long way from anywhere but when I found out the base had a curling rink, I knew how I would like to pass the long winter nights after studies for the next days flying were complete. I had curled through 4 years at Western University and been lead then skip on league championship teams there. Somehow Chuck noticed me and this led to my playing lead on his team that winter during which we had 2 eight Enders in competition and made it to the Manitoba Consul play downs. We had a great time that winter and I especially enjoyed Chuck's dry sense of humour and the way he treated everyone on the team as an important member, even the "sprog" pilot, me. Funny, but I had not thought of Chuck in a long time but for some reason our time together as both Squadron Leader and skip came to mind in January and I looked him up online only to read of his passing. My condolences to all his family. Chuck was a great guy I'll fondly remember. Sincerely, F/L Dave Morrison (retired) - Posted by: David Morrison (Played lead on Chuck's curling team 1967/68) on: Feb 16, 2015

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Charlie when he was doing the Keating Family Tree Book. He was in Winnipeg and asked if I would like to meet him for coffee and get to know one another. We had a lovely visit. The next time he called, my husband also joined, and we were honored to meet Marion McNabb, his sister, as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the short time we did have together and feel truly blessed to have gotten to know him just a bit. We cannot imagine the hours he put in to making the family tree so successful and we are forever grateful. Thanks for touching our lives. - Posted by: Margaret (Keating) Jones (Cousin) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • My sincere condolences to Teri and family . When I read all the notes between the dash, I could sense a larger than life was truly lived during the 91 years. - Posted by: Laurie Gydé (Friend of Teri Keating) on: Feb 02, 2015

  • Our sincere condolences to Dean Keating and Teri Gartner on the passing of your uncle. Jenny and Roxie went to school with Dean and Teri in Windsor Park.
