Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUDOLPH HILL Rudolph Hill passed away peacefully on January 26, 2015 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Rudy was predeceased by Nell, his wife of 70 years, in December 2010. Rudy was born in Whitemouth, Manitoba, on October 24, 1916, to Jacob and Maria Hill. Rudy came to Winnipeg in 1938 and worked at Dominion Malting in Transcona. In 1943 Rudy started work in the CNR Carshops where he remained for 34 years, retiring in 1977. Rudy was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Predeceased by his father in 1917 and his mother in 1923, Rudy was raised by his siblings, especially his sister Mary, who at 16 years of age took on the role of "Mother". Rudy was also predeceased by his two sisters, Pauline Dreksler and Mary Rerie, and his five brothers, Henry, Alex, Jack, Bill and Charlie. Rudy is survived by daughter Beverley Fast (Erwin) and their three children, Kurt Fast (Trina Carisse), Coreen Corcoran (Robin), and Caroline Fast (Robert Gattinger); and daughter Linda Martens (Werner) and their two children, Kristy Martens (Graham Green) and Lisa Wickenheiser (Andre). Rudy is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Britney Fast, and Aidan and Gavin Gattinger and several nieces and nephews. Rudy was very fortunate to have so many wonderful people in his life. Beverley and Linda would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to so many people who cared for and supported Dad especially in his later years after Mom's passing. Dad was so lucky to have met Noreen Everton at Concordia Village where they were both residents. During his last year and a half at Concordia Village she was his patient, caring and supportive companion. Thank you Noreen for everything you did for Dad and for us. Our gratitude to all our Manitoba relatives who frequently included Dad in family events. Family was very important to him and with us, his immediate family, living so far away your thoughtful inclusion of him filled a huge void in his life and meant so much. To our cousins who were there for so many events, appointments and emergencies, big and small, who went so above and beyond, words cannot describe the appreciation we feel for all you have done. Ken and Fran Rerie, you were there so often for Dad, providing companionship, support and assistance. And Don and Mary Hill we don't know how Dad (or we) could have managed without you! You faithfully visited at least once every week, ran errands, did shopping (he always had a list for you), took him to appointments, sewed, cooked and baked treats for him, helped, supported and encouraged him, did tasks too many to count, travelled long distances to be there whenever he needed you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks to special friends, Ken and Ruth Brown, who knew Dad for years and continued to visit and spend time with him right up to the end. Our gratitude to the kind, caring staff at Concordia Village, who were such an important part of Dad's life for the more than three years that was his home special thanks to Terrol and Hermann. In his final months Dad was very capably cared for by the wonderful and dedicated medical staff and caregivers at Middlechurch Home. Our sincere gratitude to Heidi and Nancy on D1 and Denise, Susan and the other nurses and staff on B1 for your dedication, compassion and concern as you cared for him especially in his final weeks and days. Thanks for your kind and frequent phone calls reporting on Dad, and for your support, patience and sympathy. And thank you Peter for your advice, guidance and kindness. A memorial service for Rudy will be held at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue (Hespeler at Henderson), Winnipeg, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, Pastor Bruce Gelhorn officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R2K 0X3, would be appreciated.
