SHIRLEY CECILIA WOLECHUK May 24, 1926 January 31, 2015 Peacefully early January 31, 2015 at Concordia Hospital, Shirley Cecilia Wolechuk (nee Anderson) passed away at the age of 88. Mom was a very warm, loving, outgoing woman who always put her family first. She is sadly missed by her husband of 67 years, Leonard, her four daughters Judy McRobbie (Ray), Arlen Jones (Steve), Leslie Woodside (Dan) and Laurie Gagnon (Archie), as well as grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Owen, Michael, Adam, Nicole and Natalie and five great-grandchildren. Throughout her life Mom was a vibrant and intelligent woman, who worked full time and became a manager long before it was common for women to do so, while raising her family. She was an avid reader and passionate about theatre. She was an actress with the Caravan Players and was a season ticket holder at MTC for over 40 years. Shirley was also involved in politics as a member of the Manitoba Liberal Party. Education was an important part of her life and she attended the University of Winnipeg's seniors' program, into her 80s. And she loved to golf with the Kildonan ladies. But family was the most important focus of Mom's life. She was always very involved in her children and grandchildren's numerous activities and enjoyed the many family vacations taken over the years. Mom and Dad loved to travel and took many trips to such spots as China, the Caribbean and Britain. Time spent at their cottage at McConnell Lake was a joy for Mom, who spent many hours reading out on the dock and watching her grandchildren play in the lake. Mom loved to socialize and had many wonderful friends over the years. She will be sorely missed by many. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held today, Monday, February 2 at Kildonan House, 216 Edison Avenue, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
