Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL SOKOLOSKY 1920 - 2015 Our Dad left us early Wednesday morning January 28, 2015 at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary with his daughter Cheryl by his side. Paul was born August 20, 1920 on the family farm in Meleb, Manitoba. He grew up with the most modest of means. Dad was a fine amateur baseball pitcher through the 1930s and 1940s in Winnipeg. Paul served his country during the Second World War in the Canadian Army. He worked in the concrete trucking business as a manager for over 30 years until retirement. Paul met his wife Ruth in Winnipeg where they were married in 1949. They resided there until relocating to Calgary in late 2005 to be closer to family. Paul and Ruth embraced their new life and friendships made at the Aviemore in Mackenzie Town. Dad loved sports, notably baseball, the Blue Bombers and the Jets. Over the years Steven, his son, would share nightly calls doing post game analyses on their games. Dad loved photography and winter getaways with Mom. Dad was a quiet and humble man who was highly principled; and for a man of his time quite enlightened. Dad didn't judge people by their colour, ethnicity, gender or orientation. He was willing to give everyone an opportunity. Paul was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Eberhardt) on November 20, 2013; brothers, Nick, Mike, Steve, Pete, and Alec, and sisters-in-law Nellie, Jessie and Maisie. His memory will be cherished by daughter Cheryl, son Steven (Shirley), grandchildren Scott and Sarah, sister-in-law Annie and numerous nieces. The family extends its gratitude to WeCare for the care they provided our parents over the past four years. Without them Mom and Dad could not have continued to live independently until being overcome by illness. We would like to acknowledge the care given to Dad by Dr. Brian Pedersen, an exceptional family physician. The family, finally, cannot express in words our heartfelt indebtedness to the staff of the Southwood Hospice. Yours is a difficult task and the love and compassion you showed our father will not be forgotten. Thank you to Dr. Albuquerque for her care in Dad's final months. A private funeral service will be held in Winnipeg on Thursday, February 5, 2015 with a private burial to follow.
