I was just thinking of Professor Lambert and found this obituary! Sad to hear of his passing although it was many years ago. I was a student of his at the UofM in the early 80's and I have often spoke highly of Professor Lambert. He was the best teacher I ever had in all my years of schooling! I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Lambert. He was more than just a professor to me; he was the person who sparked my passion for political science. When I took his elective course in Politics, I had no idea that it would be the beginning of a lifelong journey that would lead me to pursue a PhD in the field. His mentorship was instrumental, and I will forever be grateful for his support, including the heartfelt recommendation he wrote for my doctoral program at the University of Ottawa. I have so many fond memories of being his student, but one that stands out was the time I took him to the emergency room and stayed by his side until he was better. It was during that period that I got to know him beyond the classroom. I learned how easygoing, logical, and intelligent he was, and how fortunate I was to call him not just a mentor but a friend. Dr. Lambert’s influence on my life is immeasurable, and I know that many others feel the same way. He touched so many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and dedication to teaching. - Posted by: Dr. Rebar Jaff (Former Student) on: Aug 09, 2024

Alas, Geoff I'm dreadfully late in learning of your passing having been out of the country and busy with life. I had hoped to reconnect again as we had several years back. Your kindness and wit are certainly missed. I will remember fondly our "ferocious" discussions as I took on with many others the forming of new political party - The Reform Party of Canada. Despite what you jokingly called my "lost years" you graciously took me on as a grad student and lead me to completing my MA. I am forever grateful. May you now enjoy the "sun at your back and light winds" my friend. - Posted by: Dennis Desrochers (Former student ) on: Jun 02, 2018

Professor Lambert was my inspiration as I returned (with reservations) to University in my 30s. He brought an unequaled style, approachability, and panache (he wore that word) to the classroom. The American election contest he organized engaged me to the full, and upon my graduation in 1993, I received the outstanding student award from the University Teaching Services. I brought Geoff to the U of M to be honored that day as my most significant academic influence in the University. The story was covered by Gord Sinclair in the Free Press, May 20, 1993. Geoff - your spirit lives on in former students like me. Until we meet again, Benny - Posted by: Benny Hiebert (former student) on: Nov 20, 2015

I was a student of Professor Lambert's about ten years ago. I found his class to be lively and engaging. Professor Lambert was a kind soul who truly encouraged and cared about his students, and inspired them to care about politics. I had been thinking about reconnecting with him lately - I regret that that will not be possible. Rest in peace, Prof. - Posted by: Matt Becker (Former Student) on: Apr 19, 2015

Chinese & Comparative Politics scholar with sharp wit and superior intelligence who was a delight to know personally and to work with in the Political Studies Department and University of Manitoba.. May his outstanding contributions to scholarship, colleagues, and students over many years be suitably remembered and honored as he is promoted to eternal life: "...well done, honorable and faithful servant.....Enter into and share the blessedness which your master enjoys!"
