WILLIAM BRIAN CLAPHAM December 1, 1947 January 29, 2015 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of William Brian Clapham at his home on January 29, 2015. Brian is survived by his children Blaine (Chelsea), Christian, Christopher (Chantal), and Kathleen. Sister Bev, brother Bruce (Joyce), sister-in-law Lorraine, stepmother Eleanor, and longtime friend Bobbie. Grandchildren Alex, Christian, Justin, Hana, Sebastien, Cameron, Devon, Brennan, Kayla, Alexander, as well as many nieces and nephews Brian was predeceased by his parents Norman and Jean, brother David, sister-in-law Barb, and his brother Ken. Born in Winnipeg, Brian grew up on Spruce Street and attended Isaac Brock School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He enjoyed participating in many activities in school including curling where he won the 1967 Manitoba School Boy championship with his brother Ken. After high school Brian followed in his father's footsteps and started working at Manitoba Telephone System. In 1971 he married Frances Martin and started a family, first living in the west end and then moving to Westwood where he resided until his passing. Brian also enjoyed every summer of his youth at the family cottage at Victoria Beach, MB, he would later carry on that tradition with his own family cottage. After a 40+ year career at MTS Brian would spend his winters curling and bowling, and his summers golfing at the lake. In his retirement he embraced the role of grandfather and spent as much time as he could with his grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held for Brian on Wednesday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Manitoba in his honour. Condolences & Memories (16 entries)

  • I met Brian years ago at the Thistle Curling Club. Later over the last 14 years Brian & I became very close friends. I will never forget the summer I spent at Victoria Beach & the fun trips going to Kenora, Ontario. He was a man loved by many and a wonderful grandfather. I have some beautiful pictures he has sent of his grandchildren of whom he talked of on all our visits and conversations. My condolences go out to Blaine, Chris & Kathy & their families. He will forever be in my heart. - Posted by: Cheryle Ratcliffe (Long time friend) on: Feb 11, 2015

  • I'll always remember Brian as the fun-loving Uncle who livened up many family dinners and golf tournaments. He would be the first one to tell a joke or a funny story, or to point out the humour of almost any situation from his point of view. He also taught me how to drive, and told me that I was the best driver he had ever seen who failed the test, so that made me feel a bit better. Later, he would remind me from time to time that I was his only student who did not pass their driver's test on the first attempt, and we had a few laughs debating whether the teacher or the driver was the cause. I had a lot of laughs with Uncle Brian, and I will miss him. Our sincere condolences to his children and grandchildren. - Posted by: Wayne and Lana Demkey (Nephew) on: Feb 09, 2015

  • Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you, Brian's family. He was a wonderful neighbour and friend, always willing to lend a hand. We had a great relationship with him and will miss handing him fresh ripe tomatoes over the back fence from our garden! He told us he would be taking them up to the lake to enjoy! He also took our son Jeremy for his road test, and was very supportive of our kids. He will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Rob,Joan,Jeremy and Alana Smith (Neighbors) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • My condolences to Clapham Family, he was a co-worker for 40 years, he was always ready to help me out, & vice versa. We shared many coffee get togethers, had great laughs also. He will be missed dearly. My memories will always be with him & all the good times we had. - Posted by: Roger & Diane DescĂ´teaux (Very close friend & MTS co-worker) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • I remember Brian as an always smiling 6 year old - when Bev & I were in high school. I continued to connect with Brian at his cottage while visiting Bev. He was always so welcoming and it was obvious he enjoyed children and animals and was a helpful neighbor. I was looking forward to seeing him again this coming summer. Condolences to Bev and all the family. Sharon Dowell - Posted by: Sharon Dowell (Friend of sister Bev Cundall and of Brian) on: Feb 08, 2015

  • Brian will be missed by our entire family. From our pets (Brian always had a dog treat), to our grandsons (always a sucker) to Debb (always a funny comment) & especially me (a golf buddy, backyard beer buddy & all around good friend). This summer won't be the same. - Posted by: Gary & Debb Brethauer (VB friends) on: Feb 07, 2015

  • Jan and I will always remember spending time with Brian and Fran at their house or the curling rink. Brian tried hard to teach Han how to curl and never got angry with our less than perfect results. He was a perfectionist when it came to his work, his curling and his popcorn. He will be missed but anytime I smell burnt toast he will be thought of. Rest in peace and God bless! - Posted by: Craig and Janet Martin (in-laws and friends) on: Feb 07, 2015
