ALEXANDER (RED) SANGSTER It is with great love and respect that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather after 90 wonderful years. Dad passed away peacefully January 20, 2015 to join his loving wife and soul mate, Mary, and his beloved daughter Barbara. Loving father of Jack, Sandra (Barry), Brenda (Keith), and son-in-law Peter. Proud grandfather of Chad, Dena (Roman), Ryan (Alysha), and great-grandfather to Cole, Payton, Camryn, Gavin, Ben and Annabelle. Respecting Dad's wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his Life will be held in the summer. Special thanks to the staff at the Thompson General Hospital and the Northern Spirit Manor who went beyond the call of duty to ensure Dad's comfort. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Red to the Thompson Community Foundation, Box 1074, Thompson, MB R8N 1N9. "A Thompson Pioneer to the end; his passion for baseball and hockey in the North was second to none. Thanks Dad for your dedication and spirit to make things happen! A true northerner and an inspiration to many forever in our hearts."

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Red had an enormous impact on my life, he got me started in sports and was beneficial in the direction my life took. He will always be remembered as my second dad, mentor, boss, disciplinarian, friend, pain in the ass, jokester. He could be a little rough around the edges and his pranks sometimes went a little too far, but he had the biggest heart in the world and he loved us all equally. We all have personal stories that we can share and nothing brings us closer together than sharing a Red Sangster story. He is a legend and I am extremely humbled and honoured to have known him. My heart goes out to Jack, Sandra, Brenda and families - may you all be comforted in the fact that Red was loved and admired by many, I will miss him terribly, the world just got a little sadder but heaven is in for a treat. God Bless - Posted by: Buzz Fenske (friend) on: Feb 11, 2015

  • The first day I arrived in Thompson in 1971 I met Red and the next 3 years were full of laughs, practical jokes and a lifetime of fond memories. I was on the end of numerous practical jokes and couldn't help but laugh at all of them. They were brilliant!!!! Red served as my northern Dad for which I will be forever grateful. - Posted by: George Sykes (Friend) on: Feb 07, 2015
