David was born on September 21, 1945, at Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Rosalia, nee (Bruyere), of 46 years; mother Gladys (Wood) Martin, father William Martin; Betty, Phyllis (1997) and Harold Martin (2010). David is survived by his four children, Robert, Sherry (Travis), Gordan (Rita), Clayton (Abigail) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David is also survived by sister-in-law Pat, nieces, Lynn, Judy, Eva, Laurie and their families. David loved his sports, watching football and playing guitar. His favorite guitar players were Chet Atkins, Roy Clarke and Hank Snow. He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to tunes by his favorite artists. David was born and raised at Victoria Beach and had many family and friends. He always enjoyed visiting with family and friends sharing a good story or two and good laughs. David moved to Gillam, Manitoba, in the early 1960's and started working for Department of Highways (Transportation) and was employed there until his retirement. David loved his early morning visits to the local restaurant sharing coffee and stories with his friends, co-workers and everyone who was at the coffee shop on a daily basis. He demonstrated tremendous strength and resiliency throughout the years especially after losing his wife of 46 years to Alzheimer's. The family would like to thank the staff at the Gillam General Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness during his stay there until his demise. In keeping with David's wishes, cremation has taken place on February 8, 2015. I knew Dave from when I lived in Gillam and when he came to Winnipeg and visited with the Barkers who I share an apt with. He was always kind and friendly and we always enjoyed our visits with him. He was also my son Brian's first boss when Brian got a job working on the roads one summer. He said Dave was a great boss. Our sincere condolences to the family on this great loss. - Posted by: Sally Young (friend) on: Feb 10, 2015
