Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY SCALES (formerly SIMCOE) With love and sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Mary Scales, at her residence on February 9, 2015. Left to cherish her memory are her son Richard and granddaughter Robin Simcoe, daughter Nancy (Robert) Wheeldon, and many dear nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-family Don (Liz) Scales, Jackie (Manfred) Melzer, Debbie (Fred) Klatt, Cathy Nicholson, Bob (Karen) Scales, grandchildren and extended family. She was predeceased by her first husband George (Mickey) Simcoe in 1984, her second husband Mac Scales in 2009, and daughter-in-law Maxine Simcoe in 1999. Mary was born on February 9, 1924 in Charlottetown, PEI to Thomas and Helen Mills. She was the 10th of 12 children and was the last surviving family member. Mary met Mickey Simcoe of Winnipeg in Charlottetown, where he was stationed with the R.C.A.F. They met at a dance in August 1944, were engaged shortly before he went overseas and married in 1946 at the Mills' family home. They eventually settled in Winnipeg and welcomed the birth of their two children Richard and Nancy in the early 1950s. They enjoyed a close relationship with the families of Mickey's brothers and sisters and lived for many years on Hector Bay West with wonderful friends and neighbours. Mary was employed as a secretary by several law firms, Furnasman and Harrow United Church where she was an active member for over 50 years and participated in UCW and the choir. Mary and Mac married in 1996 and shared many happy times with family and travelling to Hawaii, the Maritimes and British Columbia. Mary will be fondly remembered for her kindness, sense of humour, creativity, and ability to form lasting friendships. The family would like to thank the staff of The Parkway and special friends whose company meant so much to Mary. We are grateful to the Palliative Care nurses and aides that provided excellent care to Mary in her home during the past month. A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. A private family burial will follow at a later date. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to Harrow United Church or a favourite charity.

My sincere condolences to Nancy and family. Hector Bay was such a great place to grow up and it was because of people like Mrs. Simcoe. With my sympathy. Ann Marie - Posted by: Ann Marie McDowell (Ciwko) (Friend and neighbour) on: Feb 18, 2015

I remember the visit Mary made to PEI. I still remember the day my father, Aunt Mary, my sister, Judy and I went to check to see if my father's meat store's door was locked. Aunt Mary put on dad's shoes and danced to the car. She was a lot of fun. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Philip and Jane Ward (Niece) on: Feb 16, 2015

I have so many fond memories of times spent at the Simcoe house. Mary always welcomed the neighbourhood kids, and would have a tray of home made cookies to share. Sincerest sympathies to Rick, Nancy and families. - Posted by: Valerie Sciberras (Wilson) (Hector Bay West neighbour) on: Feb 14, 2015

I remember Mary's (Mrs. Simcoe to me back then) smile, and always willing to help in the neighbourhood and at Harrow. Many a sandwich and cup of tea was lovingly made by her and the ladies group. She had a good life, and lived it well. Nancy, Rick and families, my sincere condolences. - Posted by: Truia Wilson Howard (Hector Bay neighbour) on: Feb 14, 2015
