Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNETTE GUSLITS (nee SCHWEID) April 7, 1920 - January 30, 2015 With love and sadness we announce the passing of Annette Guslits. Her husband, Isaac Guslits, predeceased her in March 1978. They married in June 1941 and had a devoted and loving marriage until Isaac's tragic death. A warm and affectionate partnership followed soon after Isaac's passing with Morris Chochinov, with whom she spent nearly two decades before "Moe" died. Annette leaves to mourn a daughter, Sharon and her husband Rafael (Ralph), grandchildren, Joanna and Jason McMaster, great-grandchildren Mira and Kaden, and sister Frances Kogan. As well, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as her adoring Chochinov family, who embraced her unconditionally and made her their own. Annette was born in Winnipeg and was a long time resident of West Kildonan. Mom was a much valued employee at The Bay for 49 years, working in a variety of departments, including the store hospital, but the one she excelled in and in which she was best known was Ladies' Shoes. The daughter of Bertha and Sam Schweid, the third youngest child of four siblings, her artful skills in sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and cooking were inherited from her hardworking father who was a meticulous "old-world" tailor and a mother who could sew and cook up anything. Mom was also a gifted, all-around athlete well into her 70s, and notably played on the Manitoba Seniors' Baseball Team. She loved to dance, especially tap-dance, and bore a striking resemblance to her idol, Deanna Durbin. In my opinion, she was even more beautiful. She loved people and had a sense of humour that unfailingly brought a chuckle to those around her. She was generous, fun loving and brightened any room she was in. Well-liked, with many friends, she was also an astute and sympathetic listener who imparted, in her quiet, gentle way, a special word of wisdom that often helped guide the way for those who confided in her. I was among those who benefited from her wisdom a multitude of times throughout my life. She is profoundly missed. Her funeral was held at the Etz Chayim Synagogue on February 2, 2015. Our family is grateful to her pallbearers Dr. Laurence Katz, Dr. Alan Schweid, Barry (Robert) Chochinov, Brian Chochinov, Joel Chochinov and Jason McMaster. Interment followed in the Rosh Pina cemetery. A Meal of Consolation was held after the burial at The Waverley where her many friends and relatives had a chance to celebrate and remember her remarkable life.
