Born: Dec 26, 1948
Date of Passing: Feb 11, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) KEITH HEMBROFF December 26, 1948 - February 11, 2015 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Keith Hembroff on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Grace Hospital. Jim was a lover of music and good food, and was known to his family and friends as quick, compassionate and generous. He could strike up a conversation on any subject with a perfect stranger and become instant friends. Born in Pipestone, Manitoba, to Robert (Jack) and Ida Hembroff, Jim grew up in Winnipeg. He was a bright student and excellent all-around athlete, with a special love of hockey during his childhood. Jim completed his studies at the University of Manitoba and received his Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1973, before beginning his career at Touche Ross where he was known as "The Kid" due to his young age. He met his wife Carla during university, and together, they raised their two daughters in Winnipeg. Jim was actively involved in the local gymnastics community and was a regular curler. Jim loved boating where he found peace on the open water, and he enjoyed spending warm summer days at the Boundary Creek Marina at Winnipeg Beach, where he and Carla had many close friends. Following his lung transplant six years ago, Jim volunteered his time with the Manitoba Lung Association, where he aimed to improve the lives and health prospects of patients undergoing lung transplants. He leaves his beloved wife Carla; his daughters Kendal (Mathieu) and Tanya (Michael); grandchildren Garrick and Rielle; and sister Diane (Bill). He was predeceased by his brother Les and his parents. Jim bravely faced his health challenges with strong support from his medical team. The family would like to thank in particular the Transplant Program at the Health Sciences Centre as well as the staff at the Grace Hospital who provided excellent care to him in his final weeks. In keeping with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be planned for this summer at Winnipeg Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Manitoba Transplant Program (transplantmanitoba@hsc.mb.ca) or a charity of your choice.

Enjoyed the high school adventures with Jim and the gang from Grant Park. He will be missed by the many people he touched during his life. Keeping aware of the many old friends in Winnipeg from Edmonton has been important but scary as several have passed before their time. - Posted by: Bill Agerbak (Friend from Grant Park High School) on: Feb 15, 2015

At a time of chaos in my life "Cadillac Jimmy" was there with clear advice and counsel. When others had their hands out, Jim asked for nothing. I will always consider him a close friend and brother for that kindness. My condolences to Carla, Kendall, Tanya and families Ah Jimmy, We hardly knew ye... - Posted by: Frank Meagher (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2015

Carla Kendal Tanya and families We send this with our deepest sympathy in the loss of your loving husband and father, Jim. We have many fond memories of Jim and his many visits to Pipestone to visit with all of his cousins, aunts and uncles and years ago his grandparents. Always with a special smile and a great conversation to share with young and old. More recently we were guests at dinner at you home. It was so like a walk back in time when to going to his mom and dad's. Our granddaughter still talks about that evening we spent with you and Jim, Carla. Hembroffs are the best hosts and hostesses! May special memories help you all in the days ahead. - Posted by: BRian and Sharon Zarn (cousin) on: Feb 14, 2015
