FLORENCE LILLIAN McVICAR
Born: Sep 27, 1922
Date of Passing: Feb 11, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE LILLIAN McVICAR With great sadness and wonderful memories we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Florence Lillian McVicar on the morning of February 11, 2015 at age 92, at St. Pierre Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Bruce, Beverley (Kerby), William (Jeannie), Dwight and nine grandchildren, Candice, Jared, Jordan, Joshua, Matthew, Alexandra, Dustin, Travis and Amanda, great-grandchildren Samara and Xander, sisters Mabel (Norm) Robinson, Mayme (Bill) Crawley and Leora Williams, brothers Edwin (Marie) Bracken, Allan (Betty) Bracken and Ken (Ruth) Bracken, sisters-in-law Muriel McVicar, Aline McVicar, Clara Bracken, Mabel Bracken, Evelyn Bracken and Susan Bracken, and many nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her husband Raymond McVicar, sister Viola Brophy, her brothers Howard, John, Earle, Ted, Gerald, and Alvin Bracken, her sisters-in-law Helen and Ida Bracken, and her brothers-in-law Alex Brophy and Dick Williams. Florence was born September 27, 1922, in Tessier, Saskatchewan. At age 13, she, along with her family, moved to Marchand, Manitoba. At age 21, she moved to Winnipeg to attend business college, followed by a job with the Childrens' Aid Society. In 1950, at age 27, she married her husband of 64 years, Raymond McVicar. Aside from her dedication to raising four children on the farm and caring for a home and garden, Mom was always busy in the community. A few of these activities were curling, teaching Sunday school and sewing, knitting, and a leader in the Otterburne West 4-H Club. Her love of music and dancing was a constant in her life and a joy to behold. Guitar, accordion and piano sounds amidst the savory fragrances of roast beef and apple pie would emanate from her country home daily. After health necessitated the need for a move to Niverville, first to Silver Courts and then to Niverville Credit Union manor, mom enjoyed making new and rekindling old friendships. Hymn sing, church and bingo were a few of her more recent activities. We'd like to thank the staff at the Niverville Credit Union Manor and home care workers for all the loving care mom received over the years. We'd also like to thank ALL the staff at St. Pierre Hospital for their kindness, compassion and understanding caring for mom and the rest of us, especially Sharon, Trudy, Judy and Jen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence's memory to Clandeboye and/or Niverville United Churches. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., at the Niverville Heritage Center. A private family internment will be held at a later date.

I just found out today of the your loss. My deepest condolences to all of the McVicar family. Your mom was part of my 4-H life as a child and I remember always enjoying listening to her stories and receiving her guidance. I loved to hear her laugh. I don't know why that stands out, but she always seemed to be smiling. - Posted by: Dawn Smith (Family Friend) on: Mar 07, 2015

Our sincere sympathies to all of the family, a truly wonderful lady. I will miss her (and I know Mom will too, Florence would share her garden produce with Mom and call Mom when there was figure skating to watch on TV) hugs, her smile and visits at the manor, and all the family dinners where we got to see everybody. Take care, love Dawna - Posted by: Doug and Dawna Knutt (Edwards) (Family friends) on: Feb 23, 2015

When we think of Auntie Florence, we think of all of the visiting that Sheila and I did at the farm when we were first going out. Had lots of tea with her shortbread cookies around the kitchen table. Lots of laughter, and lots of good memories. - Posted by: Grant & Sheila McVicar (Nephew ) on: Feb 15, 2015

My grandmother taught me so much. She is the one who showed me how to bake, cook, clean and countless other skills. I will always and forever cherish the time I had with her all through my life. Dancing for her as she played the organ. Being in the garden. Hanging the laundry on the clothes line in the yard among the sweet smell of her flowers. I made it a mission to always find the kittens around the farm before grandpa did and she would let me bring them in the house for the day. It was our little secret. My grandparents both gave me the tools in life to make it on my own. Nobody makes a apple crisp like her! I can smell it all the time. My favorite memory is when she asked me to do her make up on their 50th wedding anniversary. I can still feel her soft cheek under the brush as I put on her blush. Or rouge as she called it and looking into her beautiful happy eyes after a touch of baby blue eye shadow. She truly was beautiful inside and out. I know she is living on with my grandpa in a better and glorious time and place. Doing what they loved to do. Grandpa in the fields working away. And grandma in the garden or baking an apple crisp. Together on the farm that they loved so much. I only hope grandpa will finally get her that new dream house up there in heaven. I love them both for loving me so very much and giving me the best childhood and unconditional love - Posted by: Candice McVicar (Grand daughter ) on: Feb 14, 2015
