HAROLD NICOL MORTON October 28, 1919 - February 11, 2015 Peacefully in his sleep, at home, Harold Nicol Morton, husband of Donalda Blanche Morton. Harold was born in Calgary, Alberta, son of the late William and Irene Morton. He came with his parents to live in Winnipeg in 1927, and was awarded the Governor General's Medal on his graduation from Kelvin High School. He attended the University of Winnipeg (United College) for one year, 1937-1938, then articled with the Chartered Accountant Firm of Millar McDonald. In 1941 he enlisted in the Canadian Army serving overseas from 1943 to 1945 and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. In 1946 he married Donalda McDonald, a marriage that lasted over 68 years. Harold worked with the Blue Ribbon Tea Company and Revenue Canada, retiring in 1979. He was an active member of staff associations. He had a very optimistic view of life, but if troubles came he dealt with them with common sense and Donalda's support. He was the ideal son, son-in-law, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He helped Donalda take care of her parents over the years. He also helped her take care of the six grandchildren when he retired. A talented athlete, as a youth he played soccer and basketball on school teams. He loved to play golf and curl, but most of all he loved his close-knit family, all four generations. He will be remembered by all who knew him, with love, pleasure and respect. Harold is survived by his wife Donalda, son William McDonald (Mac) Morton (Jean), daughter Alexandra King (Roger), six grandchildren, Ryan (Tina), Jennifer (Andrea), Laura and Sandra Morton and Matthew (Nicole) and Adam King. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Weekes of Vancouver, BC. No flowers by request. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of his life will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My mother and father, Frances and Richard, have been friends of the Mortons for many years. Donalda and mom served together on the board of the University Women's Club for many years and I remember well the respect and regard my father had for Harold. When my mother moved to live at the Wellington I had the chance to meet and know Harold and Donalda and immediately understood why my parents liked them so much. Harold radiated sunshine wherever he went. I don't think I ever saw him without a smile, and a warm 'hello.' Is it possible that any other bingo caller could inject just personality into "Under the B .... Seventeen!" I'd stop at the door of the Chalfont Room mesmerized by his calling bingo numbers. Above all what struck me about Harold was his love and devotion to Donalda. As happy as he was to see everyone and anyone, nothing lit him up like talking to and being with Donalda. My mother asks me to send the sympathy to the family and in particular her love and warm thoughts and prayers to Donalda. - Posted by: Sheldon Bowles (Friend ) on: Feb 19, 2015
