ROSS REED WOOD With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ross on February 14, 2015, with family by his side. He was 64. Ross was born in Lethbridge, AB. His family moved to Powell River, BC when he was a teenager. He shared many happy memories of his younger days, and spoke fondly of his family, friends, lazy days spent on his father's boat salmon fishing, and working at his father's car dealership. In 1972, Ross graduated from R.C.M.P. training academy. He then served the remainder of his 35 year career with the R.C.M.P. in Manitoba, and retired as a Sergeant in 2007. In retirement, he enjoyed travel, with recent trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Portugal. He was known for his sense of humour and easy smile. Ross enjoyed a good book, music, and various sporting events. But most importantly, he loved time spent with his family. He will be remembered as a proud and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish Ross' memory are his loving wife Betty Ann; children Stacey Hay (Graeme), David (Mysti Westra); grandchildren Evan and Alex; mother Lee McColl; sisters Laura Beck (Daryl), Kathryn Andrews (Bob); sisters-in-law Cheryl Tordon (Pat Hrabok), Shelley Tordon; brother-in-law Wayne Tordon (Kristin); and numerous nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his father Reed, and his in-laws Harry and Betty Tordon. A private family gathering to celebrate Ross' life will be held at a later date. If tears could build a stairway, and memories were a lane, I would walk right up to heaven to bring you home again. (Author unknown)

  • I am extremely saddened to hear of the passing of my boyhood best friend. Ross and I grew up as next door neighbours in Lethbridge Alberta. We had many adventures as young boys do, sports, school, riding our bicycles and later our motorcycles. I remember one winter winter evening Ross and I decided it was a good idea to throw snowballs at passing cars. We hit one car directly on the windshield, the irate driver chased us down the street and right into the Woods house, much to the surprise of Ross' parents. After the Woods moved to Powell River we kept in touch for a few years. Ss our careers grew we parted ways. I found myself often thinking of my boyhood best friend and what happened to him. I am saddened that we never kept in touch and never got together with our families. Rest in peace Ross we had the best childhood. Your friend forever Doug - Posted by: Doug Martin (Boyhood Best freind) on: May 01, 2015

  • It is with much sadness that I learned today of this sad moment. I had the privilege and honour to have Ross as my Recruit Field Trainer in Russell Manitoba in 1982. I was truly fortunate to have such an experienced, patient, devoted RCMP officer to guide me. I always looked up to him as an example as how I should act as a police officer, with calmness and integrity. Thank you Ross for being my mentor, and being a part of my life when I was young, green, and needed someone exactly like you. I will always remember you. - Posted by: Lance Martel (Recruit Trainee) on: Apr 02, 2015

  • I just learned of the passing of Ross and my thoughts and prayers are with the family. I had the pleasure of working with Ross in Wpg GIS in the late 70's and always remembered his great smile. He was a true gentleman and well liked by everyone. Remember the good times. - Posted by: Charles TORTOLA (Co-worker) on: Mar 16, 2015

  • It was a pleasure working with Ross at Winnipeg GIS circa 1980. He was truly a great investigator, team player and his smile and laugh will remain with me. Linda & I share your sorrow Betty Ann. I never had the chance to meet your children but they should be proud of their father. - Posted by: Graham Geddes (Colleague) on: Feb 25, 2015

  • Yes, I remember Ross very fondly. To me he was a man of integrity and forthrightness - willing to be a friend and a good policeman at the same time. In Depot he was in 21 Troop and served at our (20 Troop) pass-out. In D Division I'd meet him for coffee at HQ and he even welcomed me to stay a night at his house which at that time he was sharing with at least one other troop mate. I thought Ross would always do better than I in the RCMP because he was such a respectful person and conscious of the needs of management - and he did! I'm sad that another good man of my age and values has passed on. Dear family: He was a gentleman and an honorable Member of the RCMP; I will remember him well. - Posted by: Allan Wellwood (Regno 29458) (Friend, Next Troop at Depot & both in D Division) on: Feb 24, 2015

  • Had the pleasure of working with Ross in the Joint Forces Intelligence Unit back in the early 80's. Ross was a real gentleman and valued member of the team. So sorry to hear of his illness and passing. My thoughts are with Ross's family in their time of sorrow. - Posted by: Bob Patrick (WPS Retired) on: Feb 23, 2015

  • I had the pleasure of working with Ross on commercial crime. He was always a gentleman and a gentle soul. The good ones pass away far too soon. - Posted by: Gary Guest (Co-worker) on: Feb 21, 2015
