VERA EVELYN DU GUAY
Date of Passing: Feb 06, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA EVELYN DU GUAY Early February 6, 2015, Vera passed away peacefully with family by her side. She was the last of 17 children born to Arthur and Laura Watkins, raised in a loving home on Arnold Avenue. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Walter Harold Du Guay, in 2003. Vera is survived by her children Linda (Fivie), Brenda, Patricia (Brent), David (Jennifer) and Norman (Pauline). She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Jeff, Marissa, Danny, Jodi, Cheryl, Randi, Michelle, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Nicole and Kris; her eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and relatives throughout Canada and the United States. Vera grew up in Winnipeg where she met Walter, the love of her life, at 16 years of age. They raised their family in Fort Garry, moving on to Edmonton, AB, Richmond, BC, and then to White Rock, BC, where they lived for thirty two years. Mom was a wonderful homemaker and hostess and the family home was always open to friends and relatives for meals and extended holidays. Our home was always full of music as Mom loved to sing along to most everything. Vera was a great cook, often making multiple meals, catering to the different tastes of her children and grandchildren. Gardening was a favourite pastime of hers and she was especially proud of her roses in White Rock. Vera was an avid sports fan, always proudly supporting her Canadian teams: Canuks, Jets, Lions, Bombers, curling, figure skating and the Olympics. She especially loved to watch the World Junior Hockey Championship at Christmas. After Walter passed she moved back to Winnipeg and lived at Linden Wood Manor until a fall took her on to Riverview Health Centre. Mom carried on like a trooper and, despite her challenges, she enjoyed her time there, interacting and forming friendships with the other residents, their families and the staff. We, as a family, would like to thank the staff of CDI for caring for our mother with such dedication and warm hearts. These connections were also felt during our visits as we too cared for her there. Vera was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, strong and proud of her family. We'll miss her boisterous laugh, her mischievous grin and the way she had of making everyone she crossed paths with feel special. We will carry on together in her memory as she would have wanted. Rest Now There will be no service at this time; interment will take place later towards the summer at a date still to be determined.

My parents, Albert and Lena Westman were great friends with your parents! Remember The Ranch in St. Andrews and all the fun we had with the thoroughbred racing? I just loved Vera and her contagious laugh. She loved life and was soooo funny when she would tease my dad. My mom told a story that when Vera and Walter and Al and Lena were travelling to Kentucky by car, your mom starting using hairspray and just kept bombing her hair until Al blew a fuse and opened all the windows! Vera and Lena couldn't stop laughing! I know you will miss your mom. Thinking of you at this time. - Posted by: Tanis Bannister (Daughter of the Westmans) on: Feb 22, 2015

We will always remember Vera's lovely smile. We enjoyed her visits to our house and we know she loved our flowers and spending time sitting at the bar in our basement British pub. She will always remain a part of our lives and be alive in our hearts. - Posted by: Rod & Christine Ward (Friends) on: Feb 21, 2015
