Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURICE (LEE) GERB January 28, 1917 - February 18, 2015 Laurice (Lee) Gerb passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at the Simkin Centre. Lee was born in Winnipeg and spent her early years in Bender Hamlet, Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg with her parents. She was predeceased by her husband Max, her parents Saul and Gitel Jacobson, brothers Maurice and Rennie, sister Fanny and, recently, great-grandson Jesse. She is survived by her daughter Doreen Short (Frank) of Winnipeg, grandson Howard (Heather), great-grandchildren Hannah and Chandler, all of San Diego, granddaughter Erin of Victoria, BC, sisters-in-law Faige Mock and Anne Gerb of Winnipeg, Marsha Garfinkel of Vancouver and many nieces and nephews. Lee attended Champlain, Machray and St. Johns' High School. She helped her husband in his manufacturing business, Imperial Leather. She was active and contributed to many Jewish societies, was an outstanding bowler in the B'nai Brith Bowling League, a volunteer at Seven Oaks Hospital, and a member of Etz Chayim Synagogue. One of Lee's greatest joys was her relationship with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although they lived many miles away, she regularly spoke to them, keeping up with their busy lives and dispensing her wise advice. She maintained a kosher home and kept alive the Jewish traditions in our family. She took part in her apartment block activities, rarely missing bingo and Scrabble nights. the latter at which she was particularly adept. Because Doreen and Frank are golfers, she became an avid follower of PGA tournaments, Phil Mickelson being her favorite golfer. We wish to thank the staff at the the Simkin Centre for their devoted and compassionate care and especially her personal caregiver, Pauline. Funeral services will be held at Etz Hayim Synagogue, 123 Matheson Ave., on Sunday, February 22, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

My deepest condolences to Doreen and family. I had many years of dealing with your mother and she always went out of her way to take the time to make sure I was doing good and looking after herself. She treated me like one of her own and I will truly miss her positive attitude. - Posted by: Grant Cobb (looked after her car for years) on: Apr 10, 2015

I echo my mother Sheila's words of love and respect for my Great Aunt Laurice. Her dignity, grace and wisdom shone through her and flowed from her to the end of her life. A true Woman of Valor, she kept in touch with so many of her family and friends' activities and well-being even when she struggled herself. I will miss her deeply and hold her and her loving family in my heart as she now joins her sister and brothers, husband, parents and great-grandson in a new journey. May her memory always be for a blessing. - Posted by: Shawn Zevit (Great Nephew) on: Feb 25, 2015

I will always have fond memories of my Aunt Laurice. As I was growing up in Winnipeg we lived in the same household (a duplex on Inkster), for a time, where she, my cousin Doreen and Uncle Max lived on the main floor suite. I was always comfortable in her presence and she was so kind in making some Friday lunches for my Son Shawn when he attended Talmud Torah. I somehow always felt a closeness with her and will miss our phone conversations in these latter years since my living in Victoria B.C. She was my last connection to my Father's family (Maurice Jacobson) and it's a sad feeling of a generation now gone. I will truly miss and love her.
