Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • I was saddened to hear of Sharon's passing. I was a graduate student many years ago. We shared a common passion. Sharon most graciously accepted the challenge to instruct a class of one - me. My life was greatly enriched by the wonderful gift of knowing her and would like to think that my passing on the gift of knowledge she so generously shared to many others is part of her legacy. My heartfelt condolences to her family and many close friends and colleagues. - Posted by: Wendy Riggs (former student ) on: Nov 29, 2015

  • Sharon was a true friend to us, a neighbour who helped us in many ways, and a stimulating colleague who was always ready for a deep scientific or philosophical discussion. Or a detailed confab about how to bake of really good bread (at the Tall Grass Prairie Bakery and Deli of course). Whether it was freshwater science, environmental ethics, or how to be a better person, Sharon was a warm reference point in our lives. We will miss her. - Posted by: Barrie Webster (close friend, neighbour, scientific colleague) on: May 03, 2015

  • Sharon was my big sister, my very loving and funny big sister. She always let me and everyone know that we were special and loved by her. She had a wry sense of humor that was incredibly entertaining and her cooking was sublime. She was a scholar, a scientist, a businesswoman, an entrepreneur and a wise listener. My family and I will always miss her but are so grateful that we can claim her as one of our own. On the lighter side, I hope she gets her wish and has a full-time chauffeur in Heaven. She has more than earned it! - Posted by: Holly Smith-Reid (Sister) on: Mar 19, 2015

  • Sharon was my neighbor for the last 10 years. She was a wonderful person who always had a smile on her face and something nice to say. Plus, she appreciated and was very fond my animals. She will be missed. - Posted by: Bruce Nairn (neighbour ) on: Mar 05, 2015

  • Paul & David, I haven't seen you in over 20 years, however, the one brief encounter I had with your mother stuck with me and I had remembered her face all these years later. Please accept my deepest sympathies during this sad time in your lives. Sending peace- JMM - Posted by: Joanie Magdalena Munro (Long Lost Acquaintance) on: Mar 03, 2015

  • A true Lady so full of Love and Life! I will always remember her laugh. And the profound love with which she always spoke of her Family. While her journey continues in Spirit, she will be very missed in this Life! - Posted by: Karin Mathias (Friend (Daughter of Close Friend)) on: Feb 26, 2015

  • Sharon loved anything Benedictine as well as her years as an Oblate and her times out at St. Benedict's Monastery and being able to support them and pray for them in many little ways. As a watercolour artist she went on several painting trips to the Yucatan and enjoyed every minute with the local people and the culture. Back home she continued her creative brush work and even tried sharing a studio. Many know her from the forming of Tall Grass Bakery years ago and less perhaps for her scientific work, concerns for Mother Earth, giving international papers and editing. One thing I learned - was never play scrabble with her as she was keen. It was an honour to be her friend. - Posted by: Sue Foley-Currie (friend of Shasta) on: Feb 25, 2015

  • Sharon loved life, her family, her friends, her new country and never failed to let us know that she loved us. She always sought out the best in everyone. A small example of this happened when she visited us when we were on sabbatical leave in Paris. We travelled into Paris from the suburbs on the train and I had gently warned her that she might find many people in shops and restaurants to be very rude but that it was not a personal thing. At the end of a wonderful day as we waited for the train, she said, " There is just one thing that was disappointing." Oh dear, what could that be, I inquired. "No one was rude to us all day!" I claimed that was because she was with me! How we will miss our dear Sharon. - Posted by: Phyllis and Barrie Webster (Friends) on: Feb 25, 2015

  • I think of Sharon so fondly. Her infectious enthusiasm for life and her genuine love for all people nourished and encouraged so many and made our world better. Her life will be remembered with gratitude. - Posted by: Linda (Condie) Gervais (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2015
