JEAN PARACHOLSKI With her family at her side, Jean Paracholski, aged 85, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2015, at Seven Oaks Hospital. She is survived by her two sons, Bruce (Jenn) and Randy (Kathy), and grandchildren T. Jay (Desirae), Lindsay, Hannah, Carly and Meagan. Jean also leaves behind sisters Angela (Mel), Mary (Denis) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was predeceased by her husband Norman of 61 years, her parents John and Helen, and sister Betty. Jean was raised on the family homestead in the Meleb area and later moved to Gimli. In 1952 she married Norman and moved to Winnipeg. Jean was a stay at home Mom and homemaker. She was very involved in the community with the Catholic Women's League and the Parent Teacher Association. Her greatest joy was making a happy home for her family. She was a fantastic cook and loved to sew, garden and bake. Jean also enjoyed the outdoors. Her yard was filled with beautiful plants and flowers that won her and Norman numerous horticultural awards. Jean spent many a day with the family at the beach, camping, fishing and picking mushrooms. She was also very involved with curling. She curled for many years with the Seven Oaks Ladies Curling Club, for whom she also served as president. She remained a loyal fan of the game in her later years. She could always be found watching the latest curling competition on TV. Jean spent many a fun filled weekend with family and friends around the campfires at the farm in Gimli. Jean and Norman also enjoyed traveling together. They took many winter vacations to tropical locations. Destinations included numerous trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Jean was very proud of her family. Jean was especially close to her three sisters. They remained close throughout the years even though they were miles apart. Jean was thrilled to have one last "Sister Reunion" this past September. The four sisters spent several days reminiscing, sharing laughs and traveling to the old homestead. She was also very proud of her grandchildren. She loved their visits and took great pleasure in preparing their favourite meals. Jean loved visits from family, friends and neighbours, both in person and on the phone. The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff of the Seven Oaks Hospital Intensive Care Unit. They made Jean comfortable with their professional and compassionate care. A service celebrating Jean's life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26, at Glen Eden Funeral Home at 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Bruce, Jenn, Randy, Kathy and families, we are so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a terrific lady with the best sense of humor and the greatest giggle. We remember many great times at Bob's folks and the ponderosa and how much fun everyone had sharing stories, playing horseshoes and lawn darts and playing tricks on one another. We are very sorry we are not able to attend the funeral. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we hope you will be comforted by wonderful memories and all the love from family and friends who surround you. Sincerely, Bob and Penny - Posted by: Bob and Penny Malinowski (friends of family) on: Feb 26, 2015

  • Our condolences to the family. We will miss Jean; a friend for over 60 years. She will always be remembered by us. We will miss visiting her on our yearly visits to Winnipeg. May she rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Bye friend. Walter & Angie - Posted by: Walter & Angie Pashnicki (friends) on: Feb 25, 2015

  • There are so many memories to share. The one that always comes to mind is when my mom and Aunty Jean decided it was a good idea to go spying on the hippies that were next door to the ponderosa. How the story goes, they crawled and hid in the ditch to see what was going on. I don't think they saw much because All I can remember was there was a lot of laughing and giggling (Aunty Jean had the best giggle) when they returned. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. - Posted by: Cory McGregor (Life long family friend) on: Feb 24, 2015
