JOHN ALFRED MOFFAT It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Alfred Moffat on February 23, 2015 at the age of 78. John will be deeply missed by his two sons John and Robert (Estella), his life partner of 30 years Doreen Gregory, his much loved sister Ida Weiss and brother Ed (Lorrie), his nephew James (Amanda) and niece Joanne (Clayton), his stepchildren Don, Ken, Michael Gregory and Sharon (Gary) Zimpelman, and most cherished grandsons Andrew and Matthew. John and Robert's mother Lorna is also left to mourn. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence (nee Redfern) and many close friends and confidants. John was born March 5, 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He spent his early years in the Brooklands area of St. James. He was an avid player and lifelong follower of the Beautiful Game, soccer. He was on the Winnipeg Juvenile All-Stars Soccer Team that travelled the province and the U.S.A. John also played on the United Weston Soccer Team with his brother Ed. He attended St. James Collegiate where his passion for Jazz developed and collection of jazz music started. John really enjoyed cooking and experimenting with recipes from around the world and following his favourite sport teams on the radio and television. Although he said he was a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, we believe that was just to ruffle the feathers of his brother by siding with his sister-in-law. John was a true Blue fan at heart. For both John and Ed's earliest job, they worked for their uncle Jack at CraftMaster Heating. John also worked for the railway out of Kenora, Ontario, later moving back to Winnipeg. When he turned 25 the Winnipeg Land Titles Office hired him, where he stayed to retirement almost 40 years later. Leaving to mourn his loss are the many friends and comrades of WLTO, the legal and para-legal community, and the many people and groups supported by his generosity of spirit. John was a long time resident of Charleswood in Winnipeg, with wonderful homes later in St François Xavier and near Beausejour, Manitoba. John's two sons and he had great love for each other and of course his daughter-in-law. He will be greatly missed by his two grandsons who always referred to him as Grampy John. Grampy John would be in the stands at many of Andrew and Matthew's many sporting events or picking them up to drive them about. There of course would be the race among the grandsons to see who would grow taller than Grampy first. The love for his family was unmatched. His presence will be greatly missed. We would like to thank wholeheartedly the valiant effort on behalf of the good Samaritan and EMS personnel on that cold winter day.
