EMILY MURIEL (nee DARRAUGH) YOUNG 105 years, 2 months, 20 days The family is saddened to announce the passing of our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother on February 17, 2015 at the John Owen Evans Residence, Geraldton, Ontario. Mother was born in November 1909 in Innisfail, Alberta. She grew up in the Harding Area of Manitoba. As a young woman she went to Nursing school in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She worked in TB sanatoriums in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, at the Children's Home and did some private duty nursing. She met Joe Young and was married in January 1943. Joe worked for Ontario Hydro and they lived in Kawinigan Lake where Dad patrolled the hydro line. In 1944 they moved to Beardmore, Ontario and in 1958 moved to Geraldton. Mother was active in the Legion Ladies Auxiliary in both Beardmore and Geraldton. She was a member of the St. John's Ambulance. In her later years she was involved in senior group activities. Following surgery at age 95 she moved into long term care where she continued active in activities until she slowed down around 102. In 2012 as we were leaving the house after a visit she said goodbye to her house and was never able to return there. On February 12 she collapsed while walking with her walker and her nurse. On Saturday she decided it was her time for her final journey and informed staff of this. She died peacefully on Tuesday evening. She is survived by her son and his wife, her daughter and her husband, her grandson and his wife, her great-granddaughter all from out of province. She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1986, her parents and many other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff, volunteers and friends at long term care for her care and support over the past ten years. If friends so wish, donations may be made to the Geraldton District Hospital Residents' Christmas Fund. Interment will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Thunder Bay. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Messages of condolence may be placed on the Résidence funéraire Fawcett Funeral Home website: www.rfffh.com
