HOLLY ELAINE BURGESS On Sunday, February 8, 2015, Holly Elaine Burgess died at the age of 89. Predeceased by her parents Peter and Maria Ogryzlo; siblings: Jean, Steve, Lawrence, Metro, Olga, and Peter; husband Joseph Burgess, and her daughter Jeany Burgess Litaud. Holly is survived by her children Elizabeth, Fred, Cindy, Bill and daughter-in-law Edith, son-in-law Phillipe Litaud, and grandchildren: Sam, Manon, Chloe, Simon and Karim. Holly was born in Winnipegosis, MB and graduated from United College in Winnipeg. Holly worked as a social worker for 10 years prior to marrying Joe in 1956. They eventually settled in Winnipeg where they raised their family. Holly was a devoted caretaker to Joe during his long illness with early-onset Alzheimer's. Holly started the first support group for families dealing with Alzheimer's disease in Winnipeg. She was instrumental in establishing the Alzheimer Society Manitoba and served on the first board. Holly had a thirst for knowledge and profound interest in others. She brought light and laughter into the room with her charismatic personality. The family would like to thank the staff at Spruce Lodge Long Term Care Facility in Stratford, ON, where Holly lived the last few years of her life. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations to the Alzheimer Society Manitoba. A service remembering Holly will be held at a later date in Neepawa, MB.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • When I went to William Osler, Jeany was my best friend. Jeany’s mom, Holly hosted me many many times. I am grateful because I loved Jeany dearly. She made me feel alive. I have looked for her over the years. I was delighted to recognize Holly’s picture. But I am devastated that Jeany has passed away. I always thought we would be reunited. Maybe in heaven we can once again hang dolls out the window on fishing rods and make them “talk” to passers by. The world is a sadder place without Jeany and Holly. I don’t suppose we could meet - I mean with Elizabeth, Freddie, Billy, or Philippe? I don’t remember Cindy. I thought there was a Bobbie. I guess I made him up. I am so sad. 😢💐🧚🏽‍♀️🦋💕 - Posted by: Marlene Kruger Wiebe (Friend) on: Apr 18, 2021

  • I regret Aunty Holly's passing. Holly lived with us in Flin Flon around 1950, and I still have memories of her from that time. We often visited the Burgess family in Dauphin when Joe was starting his career, and when Holly and Joe were starting their family. I went looking for the huge old house in Dauphin a few years ago while on our way to Flin Flon. We sat together at Steve's funeral service in Toronto, and spoke at length afterwards. Holly's life was not easy as caregiver for Joe for all those years. Our condolences to all the Burgess Children.
