GORDON HUGH LAYNG February 2, 1919 - February 14, 2015 On Saturday, February 14, 2015 in West Vancouver, our beloved Dad and Papa died after a long and well lived life. Born in Canora, Saskatchewan to the late George and Marjorie Layng, Gordon grew up in Norwood with his brother, Bill. A talented athlete, Gord, in his youth, held the Manitoba record for the 100 yard dash. In 1940 he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. and in 1942 married Phyllis Smeaton, his high school sweetheart. After the war, he rejoined UGG, retiring as superintendent of construction in 1983, and the same year moved to Richmond, BC to be closer to family. Gordon was predeceased by Phyl in 2007, creating a hole in his heart and in his life. Dad could do anything from building our summer cabin to mending a daughter's heart. Navigating rush hour traffic in Manhattan or negotiating hairpin turns in the Rockies, he took us on magical mystery tours, with his 8mm movie camera documenting all our adventures. Dad was a lifelong Anglican, curler, and rode his motor scooter into his 90s. Above all, he loved the prairies and HIS heaven has horses. Happy trails, Papa. Gordon is survived by his daughters Carol-Ann Jackson (Clive) of West Vancouver, Susan Layng (Peter Grove) of Victoria, grandchildren Nathan, Erica, and Katelin Owsianski, David Simon Jackson (Jill). A memorial service will be conducted by The Rev. Brian Vickers, Saturday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Anne's Anglican Church, 4071 Francis Road, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. Walkey & Company Funeral Directors 604-738-0006
