FLORENCE (FLO) YAKEL (nee GRAY) December 17, 1919 - February 14, 2015 We are sad to announce the passing of Flo Yakel, peacefully at her home with her daughter Marnie at her side. Flo was predeceased by her beloved husband Alex in 2003. Flo was born in Westbourne, MB, daughter of Peter and Jessie Gray, Scottish immigrants. She was raised in West Kildonan with her siblings Peggy, Ruth, and Peter, all of whom have predeceased her. She leaves to cherish her memory children Kent (Eleanor), Marnie Cherrie and Donald (Lina), grandchildren Carolyn (Chris) and Gordon (Ric), Jordan (Shannon), Davin (Maii), Graeme (Sherry), and Cameron, Stephen (Christina), Jonathan (Jade) and Kaitlyn (Jordan), and great-grandchildren Erin, Paige, Grace, Sophie, Rayaan, Emily, Atticus, Isabelle, Hunter and Cohen. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and her sister-in-law Emma Yakel. Flo married Alex in 1941, and lived in Elmwood most of their married life. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She enjoyed crosswords, curling, knitting, music and most of all the family celebrations. She was the life of the party and the heart of the family. She was a faithful Blue Bomber fan. Flo and Alex had many great winter vacations together as well as many happy times at Muriel Lake, ON. Flo had a long and happy life, and we will always cherish her memory. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place in the spring.

  • It was sad news indeed to hear of Auntie Flo's passing! She was one of those dear people that one thought would live forever in our lives. (and her memory will) She was always kind and accommodating, a great hostess and FUN to be with. We will certainly miss that presence she had, even from a distance. God's blessings and comfort to your family through this time of reflection and remembrance. - Posted by: Jack and Linda Bernhardt (Nephew and Wife) on: Mar 03, 2015

  • What a wonderful Aunt who always looked after my brother and I and who made the best lunches in town. Aunty Flo was always the person who kept in contact with us through the years and kept us up to date on the family. She will be greatly missed by us all as she joins our Uncle Alex. Most heartfelt thoughts go out to Kent, Marnie, Don and family. - Posted by: Elsie and Nelson Walker (Nephew and wife) on: Mar 01, 2015
