Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE BYRON WOOD June 11, 1926 - February 24, 2015 While the Northern lights danced in the cold night sky, George Byron Wood, of Snow Lake, MB, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 with Vi, his wife of 63 years, by his side. He is survived by his wife, Violet Wood (nee Christofferson) and children: Betty Stoupe (Ken), Kent Wood, John Wood, Janet East (Claude), Leone Jackson (Marc) and Hilton Wood (Valerie). He will also be greatly missed by his 15 grandchildren: Karen Stoupe-Trigg (Don), Darren Stoupe (Hugo), Emily Wood, Clayton Wood (Florrie), Holly Wood, Marley Maga (Mike), Alisha MacKenzie (Corey), Coralee East, Jeremy East, Tyler East, Joel Jackson (Alysha), Jessica Jackson, Byron Wood, Amy Wood and Jordan Wood. George also leaves three great-grandchildren to remember his love: Sam Stoupe-Trigg, Elsie Stoupe-Trigg and Josh Gallagher. George leaves one sister, Joyce Nystrom, to remember their youthful days. He was predeceased by nine siblings. George was born on June 11, 1926 on the Wood homestead near Pelly, SK. His young adult years were spent in the Swan River area doing odd jobs including driving taxi and in the fall of 1951, George made his way to Snow Lake, MB where he found work with the Howe Sound Mining Company. On January 3, 1952, he married Violet Christofferson and they lived a long and full life together raising six children in a small northern town. During his years in Snow Lake, George worked for the mining company for a few years before he earned the garbage collection contract with the LGD of Snow Lake. In 1973, George and Vi bought a local business and created the Northwood Restaurant. For many years, Vi ran the restaurant and George ran the trucking and hauling business and following their retirement in 1989, they spent 20 enjoyable years as "snowbirds" in Yuma, AZ. A funeral service will be held in Snow Lake, MB at the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. An interment will take place during the summer of 2015 at the Brookside Cemetery in Snow Lake. Memorial donations in George's honour can be made to the Anglican-United Church, P.O. Box 185, Snow Lake, MB R0B 1M0 or to a charity of your choice.
