BETTY IRENE ORCHARD (nee BEST) Betty passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital, in Saskatoon, at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Stewart Orchard and mother of Bonnie. Predeceased by two sons, Jamie and Rick (Dana). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Jamie, Kelly, Andrew (Jen) and Brett Donlevy; Stewart and Grace Orchard; and by her great grandchildren, Amelia, Riley, Isabel and Heidi. Predeceased by her parents, Dr. Harold and Florence Best, her brothers, Dr. Bruce Best and Jim Best. Survived by her sisters-in-law Beverly Best and Joyce Best, her nieces and nephews, the extended Orchard family and the family of the late Earle Haight, including Garry Haight, Jenann Thomson and Laura Baker. Betty was born in Winnipeg and trained as a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital where she met Stewart. They married in 1949 and moved to Saskatoon. Bright, energetic and quick to lend a helping hand, she devoted herself to many activities including the RUH Hospital Auxiliary, Saskatoon Bridge Probis Club, Honorary Rotary Partner, Nutana Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Forever in Motion exercise program for seniors and the Saskatoon Health Region blood pressure clinic. An avid traveler and accomplished hostess, Betty took a keen interest in politics, world and financial events, sports and in the lives of her many friends and family members. Among her many joys were her cottages at Clearwater Lake MB and Pike Lake, SK. Betty was a force to be reckoned Memorial donations may be made to the RUH Foundation and the Saskatoon Food Bank. Betty would be pleased to have Food Bank donations brought to her service. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Grosvenor Park United Church.
