SIGURBJORG LUPKY (nee SNIFELD) Sigurbjorg Lupky passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the age of 92. Sigurbjorg will be sadly missed by her son Steven (Lana); and grandchildren, Sarah, Melissa and Nicholas. She is also survived by her sisters, Sigurros Johnston, Beatrice Johnston and sister-in-law Lillian Snifeld. Sigurbjorg was predeceased by her husband Peter Lupky; her parents, Hermann and Gudlaug Snifeld; sister Emily Gislason; and brothers, Albert, Kristjan, Julius and John. Sigurbjorg was born on November 1, 1922 and raised on a farm at Finns, Manitoba. In addition to assisting with the farm, she worked a variety of jobs including domestic help, seamstress and cook. In 1952, she was invited to become a cook at the Arborg Red Cross Memorial Hospital. She cherished her time in this role and remained there until 1957. Sigurbjorg married Peter in 1964 and moved to a farm at Ledwyn, Manitoba. She became the proud mother of her son and was determined to remain on the farm after Peter's passing in 1975. Being very strong willed and independent, she remained on the farm until 1992, when she moved to the Sunrise Lodge in Arborg. Sigurbjorg had a great interest in genealogy, and family histories, often spending days at the Manitoba Archives in her research. She also took pleasure in attending community events and family gatherings, always with her camera at hand to capture these moments in time. After her grandchildren were born, she proudly embraced becoming an Amma and participating in their lives. Our thanks to the Arborg Assisted Living and Home Care staff for their care and friendship of Sigurbjorg in her later years, allowing her to continue the independence she was so proud of. Our thanks also to Dr. Ishaak and the staff at the Arborg & District Health Centre for the compassionate care they provided in her final days. A celebration of Sigurbjorg's life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Riverton Hnausa Lutheran Church. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her nieces and nephews of whom she was so fond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arborg Heritage Village, in care of P.O.
