LUBOMYR (LOU) MANASTERSKY May 28, 1946 - February 28, 2015 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lou Manastersky at the age of 68 years. Lou was predeceased by his parents Paul and Paraska Manastersky, his younger brother Roman Manastersky, his uncle and aunt John and Luba Manastersky. Left to mourn the loss of Lou are his beloved wife of 40 years, Marilyn, his parents-in-law Josie and Emil Sohor, his brother-in-law Emil Sohor (Sandi), his cousins Mary Konowalchuk, Irene Skinkoway, Peter Manastersky (Halia), sister-in-law Evelyn Piush as well as many nieces nephews, and friends. Lou was born in Germany. The family left Germany after the war and lived in France for a number of years until in 1952 they immigrated to Canada, and settled in Winnipeg. Lou attended Immaculate Heart of Mary and then Sisler High School. Lou was involved in stage productions at school and also played football. After high school he worked for a few years and then returned to school at the University of Manitoba where he completed his degree in Political Sciences and Economics. Lou met his beloved wife Marilyn in 1967. While dating they both finished their degrees and were married on June 22, 1974. Lou was employed as a Research Assistant in Prince Albert, SK for the Department of Northern Affairs until he was promoted to Research Analyst for the Saskatchewan Government Services Department in Regina. In 1985 Lou and Marilyn moved back home to Winnipeg. Lou worked at a number of jobs and ended his work career at Westfair Foods. He retired early due to ill health. Lou was a kind and gentle soul with an understated sense of humor. If any of his friends or family needed help he would do his best to assist them. If you were a friend of his you knew you had his loyalty. Ask any of his friends or members of the West St. Paul's Lions Club, where he worked at many fundraising functions for the club. Lou enjoyed following sports especially football and hockey. He also loved fishing and camping and working on his computer. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Saints Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, 115 MacGregor Ave. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Lubomyr and I used to walk home from school to his house on Selkirk Ave and wander off to the Exhibition grounds looking for mice in the fields. He lived near McPhillips and I on Selkirk Ave near Main St. but I never regretted the long walk home. Yes, a kind and gentle soul with a ready smile....strange, I will miss him even though I haven't seen him since 1955. Some people stay with you forever. - Posted by: Ihor Pona (Grade School BFF) on: Apr 11, 2015

Dear Marilyn, I am extremely sorry to hear of Lubomyr's passing. Lou was a very dear childhood friend from Grades 1 thru 8 at St. Nicholas School, and I would often stop at Lou's house on Selkirk Ave on the way home from school. Lou was our famous first baseman and alternate pitcher on our division championship Grade 8 baseball team. Rest in Peace, dear friend Lou. May God Bless You. Larry and Stephanie Ulicki. Marilyn My condolences for the loss of your husband, all too early I'm sure. I was one of your financial workers a long time ago. Doug & I have been retired 18 years and they have been the best years. I wish you two would have been awarded at least the same. Take care of yourself and know that you are often in my thoughts.
