I knew Richard as a friend. There was a time in my life when Richard was one of the only people who I could talk to, and have conversations with where I felt respected. Richard was generous to me and the people in my life. When what I needed most was just out of reach, he would be there and he helped me. A small example; in my mind all I needed to do was running, I needed to get in shape so I could join the army so I could get on with the rest of my life. Richard did not have to pay for my running shoes, I did not ask, but he wouldn't let me continue to struggle with what I had. Because of him I was able to become the person that I needed to be at the time. Had he not done that, then I don’t know where I would be. He has my sincerest thanks. - Posted by: Jared Pache (Friend) on: Mar 13, 2015

Richard was a great server and always made me feel welcome as a customer, to say nothing of his passion for hockey. On occasion he'd hang out and have a couple of rounds after work, and it is quite comforting to know my last memory of the man was over a cold one and some enthusiastic rancour about the Jets' chances this year. Rest in peace, sir. - Posted by: Charles Mousseau (customer) on: Mar 08, 2015

I was checking the obituaries on another notice, and was shocked. Richard will be missed by all the restaurant people he touched and worked with. RIP - Posted by: Rik Bonneville (friend) on: Mar 07, 2015

Rick was serving me one day at the casino and after he took my club card he asked if I was the Shelley that went to school with him. I didn't recognize him especially with all his hair gone but the more he talked I remembered that voice then remembered him. I was so glad that he did because every time I went to the casino we would talk about our high school days and catch up with each others lives. He even came and sat with me after one of his shifts. He always treated me very well and I would always look to see if he was working. I will miss him. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Shelley Smith (St.Boniface Diocesan High School Classmate) on: Mar 07, 2015

I can't quite believe that Rick is gone. I will miss his humour and wit, as well as his beautiful ear-to-ear grin. I'm sad that I never got to properly thank him for taking care of our grandmother during her final years. To his sisters Lisa and Leanne, I pray that you will someday find comfort in the good memories. On behalf of all the Calgary Baekelands I would like to express sincere condolences to everyone who cared about our wonderful cousin and nephew. - Posted by: Steven Baekeland (Cousin) on: Mar 06, 2015
