GLORIA KOCH (nee WATTY) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Gloria Koch on March 1, 2015. Mom left this world very peacefully and in the comfort of her home and family, for which we are so grateful. She will be loved and remembered by her daughters, Pamela (Scott) and his three daughters, Kasia, Sachelle and Teagan, Kelly (Darrell) and grandson Anton. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Koch in 2001, her father Ernest Watty in 1964, her mother Susan Watty in 2002, and her beloved granddaughter Madison in 2007. Mom spent her early years growing up in East Kildonan. She was part of a large extended family and enjoyed many close relationships and very happy times with cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. This time in her life was clearly special to her, as she spoke of it often with fondness. In 1961 she married our dad and they eventually settled in the Norwood Flats. A true nature lover, she was immediately drawn to the abundance of trees and the neighborhood's quaint surroundings. It would be our family home for many years. Mom was very creative and everything she did, she did well. She was an excellent cook, and accomplished seamstress and had a natural talent for decorating. Generous with her time and always up for a challenge, she made us everything from doll clothes, grad dresses to upholstered furniture. Mom was a deeply spiritual person and studied the bible daily. She had a keen interest in politics and world affairs, and enjoyed good conversation over a cup of coffee. She was witty with a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh, which she did often and easily. She loved all animals big and small and her home was a haven to many through the years. A devoted grandma she was proud of her grandchildren and shared many special times with them. Above all mom was a person of character and integrity who remained strong and determined in the face of life's challenges. Through the years she taught us what determination, commitment and hard work were all about. Mom, life is unexpected . . . lots of twists and turns . . . some to endure, lots to enjoy. Out of sight, but in our hearts. We will always love and remember you. Until we meet again. As per mom's request there will be no formal service. Should friends so desire a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. There are no words to express our gratitude to all who enabled us to care for our mother at home. So when my last breath Shall Rend the veil in twain By death I shall escape from death And life eternal gain.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Such fond memories of growing up on Larchwood, and spending countless hours in the tree in front of the Koches with Pam and Kelly. I remember Gloria's smile and the twinkle in her eyes - and marvel how she tolerated the antics of the gang of kids outside her windows. Her strength and spirit carry on in her two amazing daughters. - Posted by: Mark Curtis (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2015

  • I have known Gloria for most of my life. She was a strong, deeply spiritual, and beautiful woman who put family first and shone even when faced with the cruelest of life's tragedies. She loved her two daughter's and spent much time with them, right up to her last minute in this world. Maddie and Anton were also huge bright spots in her life, as were the family pets at Kelly's place. I will miss her smile, her presence, her love of ice cream, and sense of humor. - Posted by: Scott Wotherspoon (son-in-law) on: Mar 07, 2015
