J.L.D. (JACK) MACKENZIE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Jack, on February 28, 2015 at the age of 75, after a brief and courageous battle with bone cancer. Left to mourn are his soul mate Carolyn, sons Douglas (Linnae), David (Sandie) and grandchildren, Melissa (Courtney), Reid, Drew, Lochlan, Erik and great-granddaughter Milla, brother Howard (Sarah) and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased are Jack's parents, John and Ruth and sister Justine and brother-in-law Dick. Dad was completely devoted to the love of his life, our mom, in so many ways and even though he was very ill, they were able to celebrate their 51 years together on February 15. It was a beautiful example of the special love and unwavering commitment they had for each other. Born in Winnipeg on January 17, 1940, dad lived most of his life in Charleswood. He was proud of his Charleswood roots and was a member of the Charleswood historical society. He was an avid collector and spent many weekends with mom going to garage sales and shops looking for things to add to his many collections. Throughout his working career his biggest accomplishment was his agency, JAMAC Specialties which he successfully ran for more than 25 years. Many enduring friendships were developed with suppliers and customers alike. Dad's greatest gift was his way with people and all who knew him would agree. Dad's home was his sanctuary, especially his yard. He took great pride in his garden and meticulously kept things just so. It was there where he was most happy and content with life. According to Jack's wishes a private family memorial will be held. A celebration of his life will be held this summer in his favourite place, his backyard. A special thank you to the staff in Palliative Care at Riverview Health Centre for dad's excellent care during his last few weeks. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in dad's name to the Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0Z9 so that others are able to receive the same end of life care dad received. • Jack's dad, also John, also called Jack, was a part of our early family history. Johnny, Justine and Howard were part of our childhood and teen years. Though we drifted apart in later years as we three Olds moved further west the memory of those happy, early family years will never fade. Our love and condolences to all his family. • 'Luceo Non Uro' I am privileged to have 'met' the McKenzie family through Carolyn contacting me through Genes Reunited a good few years ago. In this time I have come to know how close Jack and Carolyn were and how devoted to their family the couple were. It is with great sadness I have just now learned of Jack's passing and I wish to send my heartfelt sympathy to Carolyn and the extended McKenzie clan. Some years ago I was able to visit the village from where Jack's family originated and forwarded photos to Jack and Carolyn. It is a beautiful place and if I return I will think of Jack and say a wee prayer. God bless XX - Posted by: Liz McNair (Distant relative of Carolyn) on: Mar 08, 2015

  • Dear Carolyn, David and Doug, We are so sorry to hear that Jack has passed away, I will never forget our first meeting when our first born sons David and Ronnie arrived almost 50 yrs ago....and the wonderful cruise we had to the Greek Islands, Jack always took things in good humor even when we missed the ship in Athens, and had to fly to the first port....Loved working with him at Algonquin Travel, he was full of great ideas, and good laughs. Sending big hugs and love to your families. Tammy and Ron - Posted by: tammy and ron macintosh (friends) on: Mar 08, 2015
