STANLEY WILLIAM PACHAL September 11, 1935 - March 2, 2015 With grateful hearts for the 79 years he walked the earth, we announce the passing of Stan Pachal: Husband, Father, Opa, Brother, Uncle, Friend to many, Firefighter, Electrician, Shriner and fixer of all things - but most importantly a good, kind man. We recently talked with him about funerals and obits. "No funeral", he said. "And what about an obit?" "Just tell them I kicked the can." After much laughter we said, "You mean the bucket?" "Yes", he said, with his million dollar grin. In lieu of flowers, Stan would be thrilled with a donation to the Salvation Army, the Firefighters Burn Fund or the Khartum Patient Transportation Fund.

Condolences & Memories (25 entries)

  • Stan was one of the real old school guys who taught us new guys how to stay alive when I started. I laughed when I read Mike's comment about the cigars and Tommy. Was that ever true. I hope he enjoyed his retirement. Journey well, Stan. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Co-worker) on: Mar 25, 2015

  • I don't know who smoked a shorter stub of a cigar, The Duke or Stan. He was always happy and what a good cook. My first intro to a #1 meal as a rookie was courtesy of Stan, Al McDonald, Ness, Reg, Muffer and the Dzogan crew at #1. - Posted by: mike robson (firefighter) on: Mar 23, 2015

  • We were saddened to hear of Stan's passing. We have great memories of Stan & Helen with our get togethers and once even in Fort Lauderdale. We will miss you. Always in our hearts. • Helen and family. Stan's passing is a loss to all who knew him. Especially to all of us that were lucky enough to work with him and have him as a friend. Thanks Stan for being my Friend and making my life a little better because of it. Pat and Kim - Posted by: Pat & Kim Colburn (Friend & Brother Fire Fighter) on: Mar 16, 2015

  • A great swell of pride always follows after somebody new recognizes "Pachal" and has a cherished memory to share about my grandpa. Not only by his family, but the love and respect shown by all those that knew him makes me proud to have a grandfather like him. It encourages me to become a better man knowing that he will forever be looking down with love and support. Rest in Peace Grandpa. - Posted by: Tom Pachal (Grandson) on: Mar 14, 2015

  • Dear Grandpa, I will always remember the good times my brothers and I had while visiting you as children. Getting my head shaved "just like grandpa" in your basement. Then we fast forward to my WFPS graduation in December where you pinned on my epaulets. That was a true honor and I look forward to carrying on the family name through the department. RIP grandpa, love you. - Posted by: William Pachal (Grandson) on: Mar 12, 2015

  • Dear Helen and family: We send our deepest sympathies to you all -- our dear friend will never be forgotten. Our time together was so special -- how we wished for just 'one more get-together'!! We have two beautiful stained glass pieces on Denman that will be a beautiful reminder of our wonderful friend. Love and hugs for you all. - Posted by: Frank and Marion McGaffney (Friend) on: Mar 10, 2015

  • Stan was one of my favourites from the Fire Dept. I appreciated him doing the sewing for the leather helmet patches we'd make for retired firefighters. He knew my brothers & sisters & would always ask about them. Glad he called to visit last fall when he was at Al & Veronica Johnston's. You'll be missed. - Posted by: Tim Picken (Firefighter-friend) on: Mar 07, 2015

  • Stan indeed was a jack of all trades. Every home I lived in here would come dad and Stan to either fix or add something to the house. Much appreciated . As dads life at St Joseph's held him there, we could always count on a visit from Stan and Helen. These visits were very special for Dad. He didn't see many people from the past. And Stans was real special because that was when Dad got streamlined with a new hairdo and eyebrow trim. His razor would get cleaned and Dad would be set for another month. I know Stan is looking for Dad with clippers in hand or maybe Dad met Stan to show him the way to the barber chair. Thanks for your kindness throughout our lives. Love you both. • We will miss our dear friend and neighbour in Country Villas. The photo reflects on our memories of a truly good man. As a young apprentice he was my mentor as we enjoyed each others company on the CNR Electrical Road Gang. Later we parted ways in our lives but we remained friends and eventually we became next door neighbours to Stan & Helen in Country Villas. He will always be remembered for his friendly smile and friendships. Our sympathy to Helen and family.
