AGNES (LIBBY) MURKIN Peacefully, with family at her side, Libby passed away in the early hours of March 9, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband James (Jim); sister Edna; niece Heather and granddaughter Zela's partner Cameron. She will be fondly remembered by her children Henry (Maggie), Dale (Karen), Susan (Kenton) and Elaine (Russ); her grandchildren Tamara, Richard, Jonathan (Pam), Sarah (Jay), Patrick (Becky), Christine (Robb), Virginia (Corey), Zela, Norah, Clayton, Delaney and Jackson; great-grandchildren Marley, Jameson, Kolby, Vaughn, Eliot, Conally, Skyler, Iris, and Jasmine as well as many nieces and nephews. Libby was born in 1929 and spent her early years in north Winnipeg. She and Jim were married in 1950 and they built their home on Alexander Avenue in Brooklands that same year. She lived in Brooklands for 64 years, most recently with her beloved dog Maddie. Her yard was always filled with flowers and a variety of four-legged friends. She and Jim had many happy years with the lake gang' first at Betula Lake and then at Lee River. Her happiest times were with family and included preparing many family Christmas dinners, trips to Ottawa and Beausejour, wiener roasts at the farm in Hartney, and watching her grandchildren grow up. In 2009 she was able to check off a trip to Alaska from her 'bucket list' when the family enjoyed a cruise together along the coast of BC and Alaska. She was an active member of the Brooklands Active Living Centre and enjoyed many hours of bingo with her bingo buddies. We will miss her sense of humour, her caring nature and the many phone calls to let us know "there's curling on TV". The family would like to thank Dr. Lamba and his Internal Medicine team at Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional care of Mom over the past few years. She liked to say "I made the doctor laugh today". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or The Heart and Stroke Foundation. A celebration of Libby's life will take place 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at the Brooklands Active Living Centre, 1960 William Avenue West. • I lived next door to Mr. and Mrs. Murkin for a good part of my early years. They were always so kind and patient to a little girl with so many questions. In fact it was an honour to have Mr. Murkin do the toast to the bride at my wedding. Mrs. Murkin was so friendly and kind and I'm sorry to have only heard of her passing now. She will truly be missed!! My thoughts go out to her whole family. - Posted by: Val Eade (nee Mort) (Neighbour) on: Mar 23, 2015

  • Growing up in Brooklands we all knew one another in our little community. Mrs. Merkin was always kind with a welcoming smile and a friendly hello. As time went on we went on our various ways, reconnecting at the Brooklands Seniors Club. Mom enjoyed her laughs with Libby at Bingo. Libby was a special lady who made time for everyone. Our condolences to the Merkin Family. - Posted by: Anne Pistun and Pat Callaghan (friend) on: Mar 12, 2015

  • I have known Mrs. Murkin since Susan and I started grade school together. She has always had a warm smile and a welcoming home and a quick sense of humour. She was a wonderful mom and a terrific grandmother. Her gardens were always blooming and she loved her dogs especially Labs. Whenever I have a Salisbury Nip, I will think of Libby.
