EVELYN RUTH READ May 7, 1926 - March 13, 2015 With sadness for our loss, but gratitude for her life, we announce that Evelyn passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge in the early morning of Friday, March 13, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Susan Katherine Read of Squamish, BC and Donna Marie Read of Winnipeg, MB; daughter-in-law Helen Read of Squamish, BC; grandchildren, Sean, Shannon and Darcey Kirkpatrick of Squamish, BC, Grant and Riley Roy of Winnipeg, MB, Sabrina Ducharme (Joe) of Winnipeg, MB, Willie and Katie Read of Squamish, BC; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; estranged husband Harry Leonard Read of Grand Forks, BC and one brother, William C. Krohn of Carman, MB. She was predeceased by her sons Johnnie at three months of age in January, 1951 and Ronald George on February 26, 2015 in Squamish, BC; dear friend, Patrick or Patty as she liked to call him in December 2012; her Mom and Dad; three brothers; five sisters; and many cats especially a very snarly one named Lena. Mom was born in Roland, MB and moved to Carman with her family at the age of three where she lived until she was 18, then married and moved to Winnipeg, MB. Later in life, Mom moved to Prince George, Lillooet, and Squamish, British Columbia. She spent 25 enjoyable years in Stonewall, MB. She was a devoted homemaker and took pride in her immaculate home, great cooking and beautiful plants. She also was an excellent sewer, crocheter and gardener. Mom had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor which she kept until the end. Unfortunately, Mom fell and broke her right arm in January, 2015 and was laid up for seven weeks in St. Boniface Hospital when she was transferred to Beacon Hill Lodge on March 4, 2015. Because she was not happy there, it was a blessing that she was able to go to a better place. We are very happy that she is no longer suffering and is with her two sons and her dear friend, Patty no doubt telling off colour jokes which she was very good at. As per Mom's request there will be no funeral and her ashes will be scattered in a beautiful setting at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3.
