Dick is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Fern, children Cindy (Kevin), Kim (Craig), Kelvin (Janet), Debra (Gilbert), and Shelley (Henry). He is also survived by his grandchildren Sarah, Stacey (Eric), Clinton, Terra (David), Tamara (Derrek), Zachary, Alexis, Nicole (Paul), and many great grandchildren. Dick also leaves behind many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Alexander and Lily, sisters Beth, Irene, Ollie, and Isabelle, son-in-law Jim and grandchildren A.J. and Alexandra. Dad was born on January 13, 1927 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. He married Mom, Fern Allan on October 26, 1955.They were blessed with 5 children between 1957 and 1965. Dad worked as a welder for Local 254 Plumbers & Pipe-fitters for most of his working life. He was involved in installing the power dams in Northern Manitoba and Ontario. Dad enjoyed fishing and hunting. As well he could always be found reading a good western or watching one on TV. He spent many enjoyable summers camping at Lynch's Point with his children and many family members. He would go fishing first thing in the morning and at night when everyone else was around the campfire he would be the first one off to bed. Fern and the family would like to thank Calvary Place staff for the wonderful care that they provided to Dad over the last 7 months. They made his move to the nursing home as comfortable as possible, and for this we are very grateful. A Memorial Service will be held March 21 at 1:00 p.m. McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 3M1. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dad can be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg MB, R2J 1P2 or charity of your choice.
