SHIRLEY LORRAINE FARGEY
Born: Apr 22, 1928
Date of Passing: Mar 12, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY LORRAINE FARGEY Born April 22, 1928 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Shirley Fargey, on Thursday, March 12, 2015, with her family at her side. Left to cherish Shirley's memory are her children, Lorraine/Lori (Rick), Vance and Sandra/Sandy (Rob); her grandchildren, Samantha (Kevin), Carissa (Ryan), Megan (Robert), Aaron and Justin; great-grandchildren, Robert, Benjamin and Sadie; cousin Moira (Herb) Nixon; nieces, Carol (Rae) Campbell and Joyce (Mike) Hanson-Peterson; nephew Tim (Elizabeth) Fargey; as well as several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Helena and Harold; brothers, Fraser (Nell), Gordon (Babe) and Jack (Anne); and life-long friends, Marian Eggar (nee Medland), Flora Stacey (nee McDonald) and Ruth Frith (nee McDonald). Mom was born in the Fargey Family home in La Riviere, Manitoba. She enjoyed her childhood and had many fond memories as the youngest child and only daughter. Mom commuted by train to Manitoba School for the Deaf, and when MSD was converted to a training facility at the time the Second World War broke out, Saskatoon School for the Deaf. She loved playing basketball and curling, and enjoyed watching many other sports over the years. After her father's passing in 1955, Mom moved with her Mother to Winnipeg, Manitoba. They shared a home at 776 Garfield Street, creating many special memories together. Each time we drove by, Mom would remark about how much she loved the home she shared with her Mother. Mom was employed at the Nutty Club and later the Highway Services Building. Once Mom became a parent, her priority was building a loving home for her three children, and Mom dedicated many years of her life to providing for them in the best way possible under challenging circumstances. This devotion and compassion for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is her legacy to each of us as her love was unconditional and without limit. This is what we all think of when we reflect on our life with our Mom. A Celebration of Mom's Life will be held in Deaf Centre Manitoba, 285 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Heather Frame, Christine Hayden and the wonderful staff of Extendicare Oakview Place for their compassionate care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue 204.897.4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

My memories of Shirley are going over to her home in St. James to visit with my mom and spending time writing long conversations with her as I didn't know sign language. Shirley was a joy to be around and so good to her children. Sorry this write up is so late in coming but just was the write up on her passing. She will be missed. - Posted by: Lesley Nixon (Daughter of Moira Nixon first cousin) on: Sep 08, 2015

My heart goes out to each of you ~ Lorie, Vance & Sandra. I knew you when we were all little kids growing up in the Deaf Community. You children were her life & despite all the challenges you were the most important thing to her. I loved your mom's gentle smile & her quiet unassuming ways. She kept her head high & I've always admired her for that. May all your fond memories of her keep her alive in your hearts, spirits & souls. Love & hugs to each of you. - Posted by: Janice Hawkins (Friend of the family) on: Mar 16, 2015

Never had the opportunity to meet Shirley but she raised the most caring and compassionate son so she must have been a terrific person. Always heard wonderful stories from Vance of his time with his mom. He dedicated a lot of his time to her. So sorry for your loss Vance. No son could have done more for a mother. My thoughts are with you and your family. - Posted by: Arlene MacLeod (Vance's Friend) on: Mar 16, 2015

Aunt Shirley has always been an inspiration to all of us. Shirley raised three amazing children and led a fulfilling life. I have such fond memories of Aunt Shirley visiting us in Calgary and Wasa (at Carol Hogans) and OF COURSE at our wedding :). I miss you Shirley, and I'm thankful to have known you. Love from Andrea xo - Posted by: Andrea (Campbell) Wojnicki & family (grand niece ) on: Mar 14, 2015
